That's how to do it man you can't expect the masters and slaves to live together peacefully after forcibly endin' slavery @House Targaryen

He picked up the reins after Toussaint L'ouverture was killed. It's a shame that after all he did to carry the Haitians to victory that he was assassinated by Henri Chistophe.

Then Haiti split in half after that. The blk half and the mulatto half. The mulatto half then took over D.R. until 1844. Rafeal Trullio grandfather was 2nd in command in the Haitian Army that fought against DR. Few years After that L, the mulatto half signed that deal to repay France.

Dessalines conquered the whole island I think

To answer the question , The elites in Haiti speak French and creole was not recognized as a legitimate language by Haitians until the 20th century and it only became official in the 70s

Also understand the split between mulattos and blacks (mulattos pushed French and sought recognition from France hence paying the indemnity )

One of the failings of American public school system is that when the do get around to teaching you about black history in February, it's actually African America history, (which by default is slavery, Jim Crow, and the Civil Rights Movement,)

I agree.

Unfortunately that was put to this very board and a lot of these yankess thought only african american history should be taught here specifically instead of black-world history

Smmfh

It kills me how blacks from other Caribbean nations constantly shit on there Haitian brothers

how so?

e.g. Jamaicans, Trinis, Bahamians, etc

We dont shit on haitians.

Theres mad ish haitians went through and their caribbean neighbors did the best they could to help.

I respect and am proud of their history and love em as brothers and sisters but people act like we owe them something or should be singing their praise constantly.

Why?

Haiti did their thing against them cacs but a lot of islands have a rich history of rebellion too and fucking them red coats up.

Cacs got killed all over the caribbean, B

Also just to add a little to the thread on Haitian revolution. My pops showed me a while back from Wikipedia the revolution to free slaves in South America which was lead by a strong Haitian army so many republics in South America (Venezuela,Bolivia,Ecuador,Colombia...) to name a few, all owe it to the Zoes back then who helped them conquer freedom. History and knowledge I had no idea either about all that until I was exposed to it reading is fundamental

Many spread out and created revolution in many other areas. Haiti is considered the most hell hole spot in the world, but it's the true birth place of freedom and not the United States.

Proud to say I share the same last name

I would consider naming a son after him.

Nah, Jean too common of a Haitian name. Jacques is too

I could understand that if you lived in Haiti, but unless you live in Miami, NOLA or in Flatbush, there aren't too many Jean Jacques Dessalines running around. It's an extremely powerful name. I would also consider naming a boy Huey Percy Newton, not only in honor of Huey and the Panthers, but also because both Huey and I are from the Bay, the East Bay to be exact.
