To answer the question , The elites in Haiti speak French and creole was not recognized as a legitimate language by Haitians until the 20th century and it only became official in the 70s

One of the failings of American public school system is that when the do get around to teaching you about black history in February, it's actually African America history, (which by default is slavery, Jim Crow, and the Civil Rights Movement,)

My pops showed me a while back from Wikipedia the revolution to free slaves in South America which was lead by a strong Haitian army so many republics in South America (Venezuela,Bolivia,Ecuador,Colombia...) to name a few, all owe it to the Zoes back then who helped them conquer freedom. History and knowledge I had no idea either about all that until I was exposed to it reading is fundamental

Many spread out and created revolution in many other areas. Haiti is considered the most hell hole spot in the world, but it's the true birth place of freedom and not the United States.

I could understand that if you lived in Haiti, but unless you live in Miami, NOLA or in Flatbush, there aren't too many Jean Jacques Dessalines running around. It's an extremely powerful name. I would also consider naming a boy Huey Percy Newton, not only in honor of Huey and the Panthers, but also because both Huey and I are from the Bay, the East Bay to be exact.
