lol @ niggas admitting they've never been to a Jay concert yet critiquing his live show claiming it isn't that great.

Being GOAT comes with the territory, I guess

Anybody can get on a stage and rap into a microphone. Jay Z does not play instruments live nor does he dance. That is nowhere near GOAT status for a live show. Chris Brown has more energy and showsmanship in his concerts than Jay Z does. Ask beyonce because she was sneaking looks at him

I could care less who is playing the instrumentation but as long as there is live instruments then i respect an artist more. Chris breezys live act has gotten more pop than contemperary R&B as time has progressed. He has hella pre recorded hooks and doesn't sing better live than on the track unlike the last generation of R&B performers. Chris had the potentail to be one of the best R&B acts of not just this generation but of all time but he went pop and glitterly in bitch nigga form. Its why brown has much less demand and people showing up to his shows than any concert jay z does.

Jay Z does nothing out of the ordinary that any other rap performer does. Walk around the stage looking into a mic awkwardly while having props, shiny lights and special guests distract the fans from the fact that he is just a mere rapper when you got artists like Lady Gaga who sing, dance and play instruments live on stage for a more memorable performance. If his shows were that dope he wouldnt need a opener or a closer behind him. Like niggas aint seen that video of him at Glastonbury when they were throwing water bottles at him and booing him off the stage

act like lady gaga don't be having outrageous outfits like any other pop artists who pulls that same shit while she plays a dozen melancholy songs that all sound the same. and her bum ass has openers too. A festival is different from a tour hella artists get booed because many of them euro festivals awkwardly puts rappers between 2 artists from different genres its happened to john legend and many other hip hop and r and b artists.

If jay did what every other rapper did in a show then most rappers wouldn't have to play at small clubs and change certain shows to smaller venues due to lack of crowds. Too many rappers try to just scream yell and be "hype" without effectively sharing their music. People like jays shows because he is himself not a fake ra ra cheerleader with 7 hype men on stage like some of these new rappers ive seen be a dissapointment live.

Yo you sounding real Dretox like right now

yeah after seeing fade to black im pissed i havent been to a jayz show yet cuz his shows do look live as fuck and he has hits for days so you know the show is gonna go on for like 3-4 hrs if he wanted to.....and he even "allows" guests to come rock it(pause cuz he really doesnt have to at this point) so u dont get bored seein him on stage all night.....but i would definitely like to see him before he hangs it up....hopefully he still has it by then

I went to the Glow in the Dark tour at MSG: Lupe, NERD, Rihanna-lite, and Ye. That shit was crazy ill.

Went to the Yankee Stadium Home/Home, never been to anything like it. Words cant describe the trilless of that shit

I wish I went to the WTT tour.

i agree i seen him in north carolina it was a sold out house...after he did his show he continued to run through his catalog giving the fans a free hour and change of bonus show...

The shit that makes Ye and Jay show dope is they have hits, stadium status type tracks. Commercial and hiphop head shit that rocks

I just saw Nas for the first time a couple weeks back. That nigga is a master performer. I've never seen Jay though but I heard he's really good.

I've seen DMX twice and the energy that nigga brings is unparalleled by anybody I've ever seen. He brings in everything: energy, entertainment, he drops gems, spits poems, prays all type of shit. He even smokes blunts and passes around hennessy...that dude is crazy.

@Jono:

Seen Nas 4 times and he really has poor breath control on stage… he's lazy with his rhymes and forgets them too. That said, his performances have such a range of classics that he's indeed one of the greatest that I've seen.

I've seen DMX and he was nice, but he was late to the show and didn't even apologise. Did a 45 minute set, he was amped and everything but it was a rip off and a hell of a boring night aside from those 45 minutes. He isn't even top 10 live from the people I've seen…

This is true, I saw Kanye live following College Dropout and then again after every album he's released… it gets consistently better as the initial show was just OK. That said, dude can put on a show now too; the show before the Watch the Throne Tour was hella amazing, dude literally had cut scenes and a storyline about space lol. The orchestra popped up from the ground etc.

But again, going on how much I enjoyed the show, as well as their performances on stage, my top 10/11 is:

1. Masta Ace, Strick & Wordsworth (eMC)

2. Redman and Method Man with Erick Sermon

3. Jay-Z

4. Nas

5. Kanye West

6. Talib Kweli & Mos Def (Black Star)

7. CunninLynguists

8. Clipse

9. 50 Cent

10. Ja Rule/DMX

Showing my age with the last two… I was 12 or 13 when I saw them. 50 Cent's was nice as it was around the time that GRODT dropped. Ja Rule's was around the time of Pain is Love. DMX would potentially be higher if he actually performed for an hour and did enough to validate the price of his tickets.

So because you saw him come late to on show means he isn't a great live performer? SMH

I mean check his stats before you mention that, were you at Survival Of The Illest tour? Did you see him oat the Hard Knock Life tour? Ever been to one of his shows when Ruff Ryders toured with Cash Money? There's so many other performances i've left out too.

Once again i don't understand the people who say people are hating on Jay-Z in this thread, who the fuck is hating on him? I don't see nobody who said "Fuck Jay-Z's live performance" or anything some of you niggas are petty as hell. Everybody gave their opinion on it cuz the thread is about Jay-Z being the GOAT live performer and if niggas disagree and say he wack on the stage how the fuck is that hate? Oversensitive crybaby ass niggas in here man.

@CirocObama

I don't need to check his 'stats' for me to change my opinion about my own personal experiences of seeing him or others live.

He was booed for 3 songs straight. Dude brought it and changed the crowd around but I definitely didn't have a good experience seeing him live and he didn't perform for long enough to validate the price of his ticket. Taking only his performance into account, dude was a solid performer, but he wasn't on the level of others I have seen, yet I haven't seen some of the greatest live performers perform, such as The Roots. So I don't think he's that high in the pecking order.

Go ask a Bruce Springsteen fan if they've ever seen a bad performance… you'll hear answers of 'Never, he performed for three to five hours straight!'

I don't care about his skills live if he let's us down on the most basic avenues. Fact is, Wordsworth, who's an independent artist has more stage presence than anyone mentioned in this thread. His freestyles are flawless live so there's no need for a 'DMX is the ruler of live shows' comments, as it simply isn't true from own personal experience and likely others too. I can't change that opinion and saw him perform 10 or more tracks, with Slippin' being my own personal favourite, but in the range of concerts that I've been to… I always look back on X's as a night I'll never get back.

You can't have that as a performer, you gotta bring it to be the GOAT performer, and fact is, he didn't.

GOAT performers don't put in slack performances.

BTW, forgot to mention De La Soul in my top 10, they were live too.

He comes over to the UK often though, hopefully he'll head out to Brussels more now that he's seen the fanbase. He started performing here around a decade ago and initially had 10,000 in the first Blueprint 2 tour and then it's grew and grew since then with his biggest performance at Glastonbury to around 70,000.

WTT tour was incredible, I went as well; loved the performances and the way they worked their catalogs.
