Jay-z Lyrics from the song "Heaven" from Magna Carta:

"Arm, leg, leg, arm, head - this is God body

Knowledge, wisdom, freedom, understanding - we just want our equality

Food, clothing, shelter - help a nigga find some peace

Happiness for a gangsta, ain't no love in the streets

Conspiracy theorist screaming Illuminati

They can't believe this much skill is in the human body

He's 6'2, how the fuck he fit in a new Bugatti?

Aw fuck it you got me

Question religion, question it all

Question existence until them questions are solved

Meanwhile this heretic I be out in Marrakesh

Morocco smoking hashish with my fellowship

Y'all dwell on devil shit, I'm in a Diablo Yellow shit

Color of Jello-O shit

Hello bitch, it's me again

Fresh in my Easter clothes feeling like Jesus and"

School a brother. I just read a bunch of jibberish.

Jay can do whatever the fuck he wants, But real talk what has jay done for the hood his from and Black people in general? With great power comes great responsibility....Jordan never gave a fuck either. When dude builds homes, schools and/or a rehab center for the fiends he claimed he served all those years ill take him seriously..

the same man who provides scholarships to lower class teens that want to go to college is being criticized for not building the college in the first place......

you niggas, I swear

Actually you are making my point what good is getting an education if its not a quality education? And whats better to ensure two or three people are educated, or a whole school of students?

Even reading his book, he is very aware of society's ills. It makes him even more of an uncle tom to know you have considerable power and sit on the sidelines. He made an effort to get people to vote and Its cool to know obama, but what do you do to try and impact policy?

"How you a man waitin' for the next man to get rich?

Yo' plan is to stick out yo' hand real quick" - Nas

You are a dummy. For real. Investing in one's community is now a handout? You mean Jay-Z couldn't do something SMART like try and corner a business that black people utilize often? Like weave? Designer shoes? Or maybe a black construction company that would simultaneously employ black workers and clean up and rebuild black communities thus raising property values? Is it a handout when an asian person opens a convenience store in a black neighborhood? When successful white men build hospitals(not free clinics) in their own communities are those handouts?

I'm the crab in a barrel because I think that successful black people should be putting money back into their communities in some way?

Ok

Man stfu w/ that dumb shit. Nobody ever said investing in your own community was an issue. If you knew shit about me on here you would know my stance on such topics. However, expecting a muffugguh to do anything is pure backwards ass nigguh bullshit. The last time I sat around waiting for a nigguh to do anything for me was when my mama changed my last diaper. You're sitting around waiting for somebody to lead you and show you the way instead of getting out and doing for self. No shit we as African Americans have always had a serious problem w/ investing in ourselves & our communities, building the right businesses in our neighborhoods, education, policing our own neighborhoods, building generational wealth....blah blah etc etc. But, I'm not going to sit here and tell another grown ass man what to do w/ what he's earned. I'm not going to try and guilt trip or belittle the next man for not doing what "I think" he should do in the black community. That man should want to do it because it's in his heart, not because nigguhs pressuring him to part w/ what he built and earned himself. Our problems are a lot more complicated than what Jay-Z and Beyoncé do w/ their money. I get what you saying, but tuck your emotions youngster.

Why would you insult your own intelligence with this post? Who is waiting for Jay-Z to save them? Who is still expecting him to save anything after more than 2 decades in the rap game? Why is wanting successful black people to help other black people become successful called having a savior complex? I feel the same way about all successful black people, not just him. Back when black people ran Tulsa Oklahoma Tulsa's economy rivaled that of other entire countries. That was done by a black community running black owned black employing businesses. Why can't we do that again? Why would you even take issue with someone wanting that to happen? You completely misunderstand my post but then you have the nerve to try and be condescending to me?

Regardless of what you think or how you feel about Jay-Z he is now a leader of the black community, whether he wants to be or not, simply because of his wealth/exposure. I'm not expecting Jay-Z to do a damn thing for me. This thread was created to start a discussion about whether or not he is a coon. I say that he is in my opinion and I listed my reasons for that. Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill, John Lennon, Talib Kweli. These are conscious artists.

I'm saying that Jay-Z is a coon because he cares more about amassing more fiat currency than he does about strengthening his own community. I'm not trying to guilt him into anything. If he doesn't want to do it of his own accord, that's fine. But that's why he's a coon/Uncle Tom, to me at least.

There are countless instances of people immigrating here in order to build up wealth that they send right back to their country of origin. In many cases they themselves wind up going back after a while too. I know at least 4 latino men and at least 1 asian man that has done this. You niggas are so lacking in the foresight area that it's both depressing and very telling when it comes to the current state of blacks in America.

Assumptions mixed w/ excessive feminine emotion. Boy go sitcho ass down somewhere. Sad thing is that you seem relatively intelligent and aware of the problems in our community, but you all on your "Harry Belafonte" right now so can't nobody tell you shit....smmfh.

Lol ok nigga. Thank you for your contribution to the discussion

That's why it's disjointed gibberish ... Don't think because a nigga disagrees with your half baked bullshit its merely due to you having this "advanced arguementative skill" no nigga .... Lol ... Don't kid yourself ... When you don't make sense and sound irrational that's just what it is ..

Now ill wait for the onslaught of rationalizations .... As I'm sure they will provide me with much entertainment

Yes he did but how come you didn't finish the story of Rocawear? The company was sold to white folks a while back and now no one wears it. But he can still shout out other white clothing lines. I don't think even he wears Rocawear anymore and he's still a part of the management iirc. Jay took black ppl's money with Rocawear then sold it right off to corporate elites

More importantly, how does that refute anything I've said? How is Rocawear relevant in any way today? It's not a major clothing line, it's not a major jewelry line, most kids today don't even know it still exists. Or FUBU. Or Phat Farm. But they know about Louis V Versace Hermes Yves St Laurent True Religion etc.

And once again, if you can't keep up with what I'm saying, that doesn't mean you should just dismiss it as "half baked bullshit". You just might actually learn something. How embarrassing would that be

Nigga your oblivious ....I'm merely picking your nonsensical shit apart.. Your flip flopping all over the place ... Aint nothing a nigga as erratic as yourself can teach me.. lol boiiiii stop you got caught when I used your own bullshit argument against you .. Don't try to cop pleas and rationalize now nigga

He a coon but not while he had his clothing line but since he sold it (a normal business practice when partners can no longer coexsist).... He a coon again?

...cos he sold it to da white man

black man...

Let's just cut through all of the assumptions and bullshit.......does anyone on here know "FOR FACT" everything that Jay has done/is doing from a philanthropic, political, or otherwise standpoint? Me personally...I don't care as my life does not revolve around what the next man does nor does the next man's lack of generosity, insight or ambition hinder my own. It seems that some people are in a tizzy about things that they cannot prove one way or another. Is Jay restricted to only performing humanitarian services for the residents of Brooklyn or NY? If he gave half his fortune to help w/ problems in Africa, would he still be criticized for not giving that money to an "American" cause/city/state/county? Perhaps if he only conducted business w/ blacks......would that make everyone happy? Is not the example that he has set fruit enough to quench your hostile hunger? What's that old saying...."if you give a man a fish he is hungry again in an hour. If you teach him to catch a fish you do him a good turn". Nigguhs out here expecting the next man to give him some fish then getting mad when they don't get it. How about learning how to fish for yourself. How about teaching the next man how to fish so he can provide for himself. How about linking w/ other fisherman who have the same agenda(s). How about building something more lucrative w/ those fisherman so that everyone can provide for the community. How about not giving a damn about that stingy fisherman who you don't think is sharing enough. Worry less about what the next man is doing and you'll have more time to improve yourself and yours cause at the end of the day you can't make another grown man do or give you shit. In a perfect world, everybody would look out for everybody. Unfortunately in reality that is not always the case.

And a lot of black celebrities give no fucks b/c u can't plz our ppl. Jay-Z can go back to Marcy right now & build 3 community/after school centers for the children, & a lot of niggas will criticize him for not building 4.

I agree. But like i keep tryin to say, a lot of the nonsense criticism of successful rappers comes from people outside the community. "Racially", culturally, and so on. It can come from any demographic, but a good amount comes from the outside. There's a lot of racists who do not like to see black people winnin like that. In fact, it really gets under their skin. But too bad for them.

He did it for the cash/stocks that became a part of his personal wealth. The fact of the matter is that a most middle class, upper middle class, and upper class white/nonblack families have their wealth tied up in assets/investments, because of how volatile paper currency/cash can be(inflation is basically an invisible tax on money)

I just think that Jay z could have just held onto the company and built it up as much as possible so as to try and reach the Versace level. Assets/investments are just a much more stable way to hold wealth, and he could have, like I said employed more blacks, pumped money back into the community through ppl with jobs spending money, etc. He would have made that $204 million he got from the sale over time anyway. Black people are too obsessed with cash because most don't know how flimsy the dollar is

most middle class people have their net worth in their home - as in their home is their largest asset. When your home isnt your largest asset you rich.

That is how I see it....Everybody cant be or dont want to be that leader of the community that heads seem to be searching for...For starters we're talking about an x drug dealer he played a part in fucking the community up at one point.....Now he gives back to Marcy, has a scholarship fund and prolly does many more things to help people out....Sun talks about certain things and is seen with certain people and that makes him an uncle tom? But at least that's collateral. The average middle class white family is worth ~$100k while the average black middle class family is worth ~$5k. There's more than just the residential housing assets accounting for that difference. There are a lot of black people that live in and pay mortgages on large houses.
