Jay-Z is on some Uncle Tom sh*t

Its of course insulting to refer to a very successful black businessman/ entertainer with various endeavor. sittin with the dignitaries at the inauguration as "uncle Tom". And ridiculous. But gotta give credit for a good inflammatory topic. Also everybody on this site aint automatically black. There's way to much hatin on successful black rappers. Not accusing anybody, but hey it is what it is. Im surrounded by black people and i havent heard "Uncle Tom" used to describe rich blacks who have no similarities to him ever by anyone like this.

How do people forget about him:

Shunning Cristal for making racist comments about blacks ("I used to drink Cristal but them fuckers racist")

Mentioning Jena 6

Bigging up black women on That's My Bitch

Mentioning Jean Michel (a black artist) on damn near all of his latest albums

Calling out known racist like Bill O'Reily, Rush Limbaugh and George W. Bush

Speaking about Sean Bell

This song he did for Haiti (a disaster that affected mostly...black people)

This song he did for Katrina (a disaster that affected mostly...black people)

And that's just what I remember off the top of my head. Don't let his image fool you, you can tell by his earlier work, the lines he throws into his recent work, and the moves he makes outside of music that he's more aware than what you wanna give him credit for. And to the OP, yeah Jay mentioned Sinatra, but don't forget that he's also mentioned Jimi Hendricks, Miles Davis, Bob Marley, Tupac, Marvin Gaye, Ron Isley, MJ and plenty of other prominent black musicians.

Only thing that really bothered me on there was that Frank Ocean line, other than that I dont see why yall are looking to him as a leader... When has Jay Z ever been thought as a spokesperson for black america? Dude came in hip hop faking/over exaggerating, so why expect him to get real now?

Also even if Jay Z only donated once to whatever cause, that bit of money is more than all most of us have/will make in a life time, so what does that mean for us?

Are we coons and toms cause we dont donate are weed money to the NAACP?

Its nearly impossible to make money and not cater to whites in this country, so stop looking to Mr Capitalist as some black knight for yall frustrations...

This thread is just ignorant

Why does it seem like people skim through Jay's stuff and not nitpick other artist the same way as Jay get's criticized. What is it about Jay that causes people to debate with all feelings and assumptions rather than doing research and bringing facts? People get overzealous when criticizing him lol.

If anything, Jay has kept it realer than people give him credit for. I think artist like like Nas has displayed more questionable behavior throughout his career than Jay did. But I guess Nas's "image" or what people "perceive" that he stands for and the fact he's the underdog prevents him from getting nitpicked.

I dumbed down for my audience to double my dollars

They criticized me for it, yet they all yell "holla"

Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense

But I did 5 mill' - I ain't been rhyming like Common since

The op was talking about balance. Nas bigs up European designers as well, but he also has an whole album dedicated to African problems and African peoples. He has another solo album dedicated to the plight of Black people in the Americas as well, no point in bringing Nas up in that regards.

I hear what op is saying, Jay does have an inferiority complex, and the thing is whites see right through it. Nigga bigs up Basquiat in every line like he just found out about him yesterday in order to appeal to the hipster crowd, same reason why he bigs up Picasso, all his career he has always tried to market himself as this sophisticated intelligent black man, but it just comes across as forced, i was hearing about Andy Warhol when i was 7 hes hardly the best kept secret, but Jay will throw his name in his rhymes even though he probably couldn't give a fuck about him, to try differentiate himself from the normal black rapper, to differentiate himself from the Jeezys and the Futures etc.

That's what I'm saying, Jay kept it real from his debut. It's the other guys who should be getting nitpicked. He told everyone what he was about...his company is named Roc-A-Fella for crying out loud lol. He just knows how to play the game he's in, alot of rappers try to push the image of not being in this for the money (i.e. Nas), but Jay knows he's in a BUSINESS......and there's no point of being in a business if you don't plan on making money. I have a feeling that Jay probably does more than people know, and those stories probably won't come out until later on....Similar to how there was a one sided potrayal of Pac in the media while he was alive, and all of the good stuff came out after he died. Seeing how he moves, I think Jay is comfortable playing the bad guy because he knows it'll generate interest in his music. It get's us talking like we are doing right now, and a lot of people who can't stand him will listen to his new stuff anyway to find whatever they're looking for to back up their preconceived notions of him.

Black folks are the most biased ain't even funny.

I don't go by stupid ass meme created by ignorant white and black folks.

Scientist knows what's up.

Whatever, Jay ain't a coon.

Hip Hop fans are just extra on him and etc cuz of his stature.

Yeah he dumbed down his music and still made Blueprint, Black Album, American Gangster and Magna Carter. Ha!

Like i said, what he sacrificed in lyrics he made up being a more complete artist and that's what that dumb down line means.

For all the niggas screaming Reasonable Doubt this or that, just remember most you niggas didn't buy it when it dropped or weren't old enough.
