damn if u feel the oceans hook was disgusting i think u should go back and listen to it again. that shit is serious. the elephant tusk (the killing of the elephant in africa like killing us and putting them on ships...slave ships like us) going to a basquiat show to celebrate a black dude who died grappling with success since coming from poverty. the reference to the black skin dirting the white tux is more on that whole fuck up the world shit. we dont belong there but he goes on to say fuck it...the water killed my family the water mixed my blood...that shit serious...u gotta listen to it again

I think Jay's approach is being misinterpreted totally.. That Oceans song is my favorite song on the album.. Very powerful..

I think what people are missing here is that Jay doesn't want to be considered just some black rapper.. He wants to be taken seriously by everyone.. On Picasso baby he said..

'Im the new Jean Michael.. Surrounded by Warhols..'

Thats Jay's approach in a nutshell.. Yall gotta open your ears man.. This dude is dropping gems..

That says it all right there, Jay puts a lower value on black rappers than he does white singers. If Jay really had knowledge of self he'd know that civilization started in Africa along with Science, medicine, philosophy, the arts, math etc. Alexander the Great and Socrates came to Africa to be educated, we had the first universities and great libraries. Africans in the congo were doing multiplication 25000 years ago. With all this rich history we have as black people Jay still looks to Europe and tries to borrow from their culture to seem more refined.

Jay forgot where he came from but he try to pretend to remember it when he puts Nas on the album

Nas happy as long Jay pays him

My thing is I dont know why we are surprised by this like My boy White seem to be. I see what you saying white and agree with the majority of your stance but this selling out stuff didnt just start. look at how dude goes about his business interms of the people he kept in his circle. Nigga went from Jaz to dame to foxy to sauce money, to ruff ryders, to Beans and state prop to doin shit wit weidos like kanye and Frank Ocean, crazy bitches like Ri ri and beyonce, making tracks like Forever young wit that ol fake ass wannabe phil collins cracka. Did a.track called niggas in paris kinda symbolically distancing himself from the hood. Symbolically distancing himself from everybody he used as a steping stone to get to that white people circle of approval litterally when you look at that famous IC gif of him takin a pic wit all the white folk while Freeway is off to the far side lookin left behide like a mofo.

So what Im tryna say is the way hes has snaked people from the past with no fucks given to shake them for another regime. ..to get to the people he hangs wit now It was a natural evolution of sellin out. * shrug *

Isn't Harry Bellafonte the dude who popped shit first about Jay and Beyonce doesn't give back, AS IF HE KNOWS WHAT PEOPLE DO. Dude was being presumptuous imo, not everyone gives with the idea or receiving credit for it

As for that so called European shit, i would hope you become more open to shit and more eclectic the more you travel the world. I can tell some of ya'll niggas ain't never been anywhere or seen anything before, you're lives are based on trivial shit like race.

Harry Belafonte was talking about Jay and Beyonce not speaking out and bringing attention to social issues that people of color go through not giving money to charities

And I am open minded I listen to all kinds of music and watch all kinds of movies and read all kinds of books by people of all races but I don't shy away from black folk to do so, I am aware of our history and achievements and I don't think we take a backseat to white people.

Like when Jay-z made a record about Katrina and donated a million dollars to it.

Like when Jay-z established a fund for Sean Bell's family and spoke on police brutality

Like when Jay-z donated money for wells in Africa and became an ambassador for the United Nations

Liker when Jay-z brought attention to Danroy Henry

Like when Beyonce opened up a center for women who came from a domestic violence background in Houston

Oh wait!

How does Jay-z shy away from black folks?

1. His wife is black

2. His best friends are black (TY TY, Bleek, Emory, etc)

3. His label execs are all black execs (TYTY, HipHop,etc)

4. Most of the artist he put on are black (Rihanna, Cole, Ye, Just Blaze, etc)

5. When you see them poparazzi pics it's him and his family

Not that it matters who the fuck he hangs with, i'm of the belief of hanging with like minded people, not people based on race. That's simple minded shit.

Theres not one real niggas in any of the names that was named. come on man. most of them fools is sell outs on they own levels

From what I heard Beyonce dated Eminem, Justin Timberlake, Marques Houston so actually Jay married a women taht don't even likes Black men. She likes jay money

Damn can he live? Pun intended! A drug dealer from the projects of NY made it all the way to the top, pretty sure that shit causes the duality of a man to multiply. He just tryna find his place in this world he's step foot in. What old qualities to leave behind and which to bring with to keep him grounded. I mean shit I come here and see posters backtracking, being contradictory, etc. His growth is just spotlighted so we witness every mistake as well as every accomplishment. Btw the album is a strong 4 mics - 4.5 mics

Smh at the "real nigga" movement

another shit bringing down the black culture

I don't expect cats to be on the corner smoking weed and fighting pitbulls in basements..that's backwards coon shit.niggas can't relate no way to a serious amount of the shit he's saying.

I want Jay to acknowledge his roots and give some love to black culture, I am not here trying to tear him down, but I am genuinely disappointed in the direction he is going in, he is better than this. It pains me to see another black man seemingly have a inferiority complex.

This thread has so many feelings. It's like Kingdom Come was the soundtrack to niggas' mothers getting raped and they've been bitter about it ever since.

LOL at doing anything in life with the thought of black people's approval. We're probably the biggest fucking haters as a people stemming self esteem issues going back to slavery. God forbid if a nigga ever look at all the colors in the spectrum and not just focus on what people think he should focus on.

No disrespect to people like Cosby, Bellafonte, and all them other old timers, i respect what they did back in the day but that doesn't mean their approach is working for these times.

aka "I want Jay to do more like Santa for blacks the same way I want Obama to do more for blacks cause its only right"

And there we have it, the sob story of many folks in here.
