Jay-Z is a great businessman, but I'll be damned if he ain't the biggest sellout in hip hop history!

Damn what did this man do to you? It's like the IC has a vendetta again him

U ain't know the IC is full of thugs who would never do anything against the code of the streets to make a dollar? Shiiiiieeet

Whats this code of the streets shyt that yall keep trying to tie this thread with, this ain't that...why yall tryna water this shit down, these niggas don't even need the team that they pay millions to, or pr agents, and reps, yall discrediting this to distract niggaz from what is materialising, smh...this is real shameful, but at the same time very telling of the status quo.

I was being sarcastic bruh

@Jamaica, yall stay saying shyt I done covered already in this thread, I see that no one is actually capable of constructing a good argument for this move, that actually highlights progressiveness and that is more involving than just the 'self'...

so how is he a sellout again?

i thought it is called cross promotion.

he helps samsung reach his audience and samsungs customers can reach his music or know about it.

its a great idea.

niggas too busy coming up with street cred ways to promote....yall need to grow up and realize that the hood is not the only ones who have money and you'll reach million(aire) status faster by opening your mind an forget keeping it real for the locals..

niggaz to busy gettin caught with guns in the airport or gwtting shot in the ass or fighting in a club...all dumb shit

who's glorifying dumb shyt? wtf? stop talking outta ya ass and read the opening post, cuz you clearly don't have a clue what this thread is about... and another one...yall niggaz is lightweight for these corporates and brands, carry on tho...

calm down. and we all lightweights ...whats you point?

also im speaking in general and used my first line to justify where i went with it.

niggaz,i tell you

Im not usually the kind of poster that will say 'if Pac was alive blah blah blah'...but gotdayumn it, that nigga would have never did no shit like this, not surprising tho, since he was the only one making songs like Keep Ya head up and Brenda's Got a baby...disgust, specially in the position that he is in right now, wow...just getting dug out even deeper by these devils that he clearly worships.

This Tupac pedaling St. Ides?

Just get home and yall up to the same stuff. Nobody livin gettin legit money cares about broke people sayin they "sold out". Waste of breath to even say that. Yall not usin time wisely. No thank you to hatin on gettin money. Im outta here.

If you think selling out = having a deal that makes you money, then I guess under that definition yes he sold out. But this is pioneering in the fact that in an industry historically run by the labels where they control your albums direction in the singles dropped and the promotion it gets, Jay is saying no I'ma take matters into my own hands and decide the direction of the music as well as the promotion and release it straight to the streets.

Takes out the industry giant middle man, makes 100% of the music he wants to make, releases it when he's ready to release it, and takes advantage of the digital state of music rather than get bullied by it.

Yes Ye did something similar as far as not having a single, but not everyone can release a project solely off their name. Jay took it a step further that could actually help lesser artist get money by opening the door with these cross marketing album deals. Jay has never been been one to help by holding your hand, but he has opened doors and showed the way (as he's doing here).

Hell if Lupe had a similar deal we probably would be blessed with 3 more classic albums from him by now!

.............waiting for someone to post something smart instead sheep thinking

good thread yo

From yo Brooklyn thread I thought you was a leader...YOU post something smart and let the "sheep niggas" counteract...that's a debate nigga..

T/S aint said nothing smart yet...thread based on hate for seeing success in a black man...something black people love to do when a nigga get on...sad.

I agree this a good thread for discussion. But really, I dont believe in the term "sold out". You dont know what's in their mind why they do things. Thats their business. Watch your own pockets not the next man's.

Not only is it a great business move it's fucking common sense. No better way to get to the consumer than directly through their cell phone provider...

Somebody somewhere must be thinking about taking this idea to the next level...signing digital distribution deals with artist, with consumers accessing new music via phone apps.
