don't have to like the art you like and you don't have to like Basquiat. Art is subjective as i stated before,Basquiat
and Warhol created fan bases doing their own thing if you're not impressed cool but that doesn't make them any
less relevant.
... and that's what I've been doing, stating my opinion and trying to back my own shit up with as to why I think that way.
I said before, if people want to throw money at basic work that can be replicated on MS Paint, it's their money they earned to spend on what they like, that's on them. but I don't rate Basquiat's art personally. If you think Warhol is a genius for making art from screen printing other people's photos in multiple colours and black and white, great. I think he found a cheap way to sell multiples of things rather than devote himself to being original and inventive. If you think Chelsea Girls is awesome and Dos Cabezas is better than the Mona Lisa, that's your choice. You can think Basquiat is great and that Jay Z made a brilliant investment in an artistic prodigy. I just don't agree.
I'm just explaining my own as best I can by showing and telling. I wouldn't pay 105 million for something a weird dude who started a small cult of pretentious white addicts to promote him, got his partners hooked on drugs knowing he ran the hippy equivalent of a well decorated traphouse, who then used other people's work, basically photocopied it/supersized it and scaled it up, is that much of an artist. For 105 million, I'd buy a superyacht or a bunch some condos in Brazil to rent as timeshares to extend my property portfolio.
I think artists should do more than jack someone else's images, frame up a canvas and pull a lever on a printing press, I think they should paint/draw/build/sculpt things. That's my opinion. If you don't think the same, then let's agree to disagree on the basis you said, that it's subjective.
