I think Cole is trying to get a hit, but still stay with his fanbase at the same time. He's riding the line but that shit doesn't always work. Sometimes you gotta forfeit your style that got you here if you want some mainstream appeal. Or just stay true to your fanbase. Even though it may take longer, it may also pay off cause they're way more loyal than the random people who spend 99 cents on the song of the moment.

I've finally agreed with Cham on something!!!

The 3rd verse from memories was dope as hell, it's just a nice track to listen to, you feel me?

to be fair who doesn't lupe destroy on tracks?

Wait for me was good cut too, there's alot of good cuts on FF. I was impressed

"Memories 2" - John Legend OWNS the song and the production is dope as hell. Big Sean's verse is just OK

"Wait for me" - Lupe EFFORTLESSLY outshines Big Sean spitting one of the laziest verses I've ever heard him spit. He has this corny ass line about both their watches being made in Japan that made me wince. But STILL better than Sean's verse

When you're talking "Reasonable Doubt", you're talking a project that showcases lyricism, flow, and wordplay. Big Sean is not exceptional in any of these categories

I'm new here, but I'm interested in this subject. I'm French, so please forgive me is my english is not perfect. Well, we don't really give a damn about me, so let's talk about Cole.

I don't have real experience in real hip-hop music, so please be indulgent. I like this song, it's interesting. Classical theme and lyrics, but this guy can be interesting to follow.

AND Wiz Khalifa embarassed Sean on "High". Wiz fucking Khalifa made your boy look like a novice. The very SAME Wiz Khalifa that did that wack ass "Roll Up" joint outrapped your boy on a joint. That's just embarassing

Lupe did seem like he wrote that verse in like 15 mins lol

And STILL had the better verse. Wiz Khalifa's verse wasn't even all that, but compare it to Big Seans and dude comes out looking like a Master MC.

Smh @ you not even being able to deny it. That album was carried by production, anyone who is a fan of lyrical rap would tell you the same thing.

This sums up what I think in a nutshell. He should just do what got him popular instead of trying to be everywhere with the music. Some people are just not going to give his music a chance for a myriad of reasons. But if he sticks with what is true to his style and message and it's good people will accept it. Kanye West is a perfect example of what I'm saying. When he first came out he did him, he didn't try and do what was popular in Hip Hop at the time. He talked about things he was into and were important to him.

What type of Hip Hop you into? If you like the workout song then honestly you might not like J. Cole's music too much. LOL. This type of song isn't the norm from this particular artist. This is just his feeble attempt of making something popular instead of doing what he usually does

I'm not very fond of hip-hop. I saw this forum talked alot of R&B, and that's what I'm rather into. But I prefer rap artists such as Fabolous, Nicki Minaj (even if she is now a sucker pop artist) .. But I like the three mixtapes of Cole, and Disgusting (I don't know if you've listened to it).

Well if you have already listen to his mixtures you know what to expect from his music. I thought Disgusting was disgustingly awful!!!! I think J. Cole should most definitely let more singers do his hook's or at least let them sing behind him to make it sound better. I can see why you would like Cole's music if you like R&B a lot though. His stuff seems to be more laid back

Oh, you know, I'm not stubborned in a very specific stuff. I can like Cole's mixtapes and hate one leak for the album, it's the big surprise. ;) But according to me, Work Out is a little flash-back into R&B music. I can be wrong, but that's I first thought when I heard it. Oh, and by the way, is there a flooding/presentation thread ?
