Kanye is the most important figure in Hip Hop musically/artistically since maybe NWA . He brought life to the genre . Added at least 15 years to Jay-Z career ( A Legend ) . Help bring Twista to the mainstream . Jamie Foxx , John Legend . Common's career was rejuvenated with the help of Kanye . No he is not a top 5 rapper but he is a very good rapper and the musical aspect of his artistry sets him apart . Kanye is greater that just a rapper . Jay , Nas , Pac etc . And those guys are GOAT rappers . But thats the prob they are just rappers But Kanye is a far better artist because of his ability to make music and the diversity of the kind of music he produces. Its like comparing Stevie Wonder to Avant . Real Talk . Yea Avant is a singer , so is Stevie . But Stevie is a drummer , pianist . songwriter , experimental with sounds , producer etc etc etc . There are things that are unique to Hip Hop yes , But what is not unique to Hip Hop is that its MUSIC . And to be respected by musicians Hip Hop needs to have more niggas that do more than rap . Just my opinion
I feel what you are saying here.

Kanye brought conscioussness, confessionalism whatever you wanna call it to mainstream hip hop, he got people to stop rapping bout guns and drugs as the only way to make money in hip hop

No one else did that.. there are scores of other people who are better rappers but he deserves to be in the discussion..

kanye is the most influential rapper of the last decade.. BY FAAAAAAAAAR

thats a HORRIBLE look for hip-hop

kanye took away the aggresive content in hip-hop culture in the mainstream

If Kanye didn't produce, and rapped on horrible production, then he wouldn't be Kanye West. The creativity, the production, that's what makes him him.

That's like me asking, what if Nas wasn't lyrical and had Ye's production, would he still be hot? Could he make the same music Ye makes. Could Nas make "Runway". Then he wouldn't be Nas nigga LOL

so kanye is an average rapper who isn't comparable to jay, big or nas.

No he didn't. Kanye just speaks on real shit. Especially in his early work. It's not like it was soft.

As a rapper he is nowhere close to Nas, jay. They run circles around him. Kanye's production and overall impact overshadows his mc skills. Which r good.

I respect your opinion. Only thing i would say is that in the case of Stevie, he was not only mulittalented outside of singing but he was one of the greatest singers ever. You cant say that about Kanye as far as rapping alone is concerned. He's prolly the best of the 2000's generation and a production genius. But I listen to MCs to be impressed and Kanye just dont do that for me. I can see that he's legendary at this point though, just not top 5 for me.

I am not a huge fan of his post Graduation either. MBDTF is overrated all over the place.

I agree with the bolded . Stevie is also a GOAT singer and Performer to add . Kanye is not a all-time great rapper when it come to lyricism , however he may be a GOAT rapper in getting is point across and message across with his music tho. Where he may lack in lyricism in my opinion he makes up with the passion and the vision in his music .

If kanye west was to say he is going to retire on his twitter account right now hip hop would be fucking boring after he leaves I swear.

pac is an average mc then

but he is... it's his lyrical aspect, the true definition of it, which is expressing observation or emotions, his charisma, his in your face persona, and his down to earth mentally that helps him rise above the lack of technical skills
