I think it depends..............The natrue Of hiphop is The battle, to see who is best...........its always been about "How was the Better Rapper" To ignore that aspect is to ignore HipHop itself. When SOmebody tests U, u responded. No Passes given. However, Nowadays the "Battle" aspect of hiphop has been Commercialized to the point of it Being a joke. Rappers go at other rappers for otherreasons besides trynna be the best. Fraudulent Street beefs and Using Beef as a Promo tool is the Main reason for Beef. even Silly reasons like "who has more money or Swag", "Dude stole My Words (Max b trynna get at Game for saying "Wavey" lol)" Or even "He gave me a Funny look (Rick Ross's reason for trynna Come at 50).............Nobody cares about ther bars or the Lyics cuz Lyricism is a Concept the has been forgot. How can u expect a Rapper of Jay's Caliber, (lest say a NaS, Busta, Em, etc) to take these rappers Seriously, when they r Trash, pr they not trynna battle to battle. They Trynna Battle To Sell an Album or dumb fuckin reasons like that. Beanie ask Jim, "Y u trynna go so hard at Jay, U trynna B KONY??" Jim said na, He didnt have any reason", Do u really expect him to respect dudes like that??? Now granted, I do believe Jay needs to answer this Clowns sometimes. The last Quality battle i heard was Saigion vs Joe Buddens. 2 Lyricist Goin at it, trynna See who is the Best. That was the best battle i heard in Yrs. Thats Wat hiphop is about, sonnin a nigga and tell him "Im b etter than U" . thats the STreet Aspect of hiphop, the "IN Ur Face, Nigga this is My Hood" part of hiphop. Foxy was a Punk for backing out on Remy. Remy had bars, Foxy is suppsoed to be the best Female in the Game. Yet Foxy chumped up. Look at Benzino, wat Reason do he have to get at Slaughthouse??? For wat?? to sell Records??? then act like He really aboutr some street nigga shit showin off Gunz and wat not, like he really Gonna Pop em. Thats the bullshit part of the Game. Great points But lets just keep it at its pure essence if a rapper of any reasonable acclaim challenges another rapper considered to be at Higher calibur by way of throwing out lyrical disses the higher calibur rapper should respect his fellow competitor and either crush if he can or get crushed and bow to his superior. The whole street beef and fist/Knife/Gun fight over being a sucker at wordplay or catching feelings off of what is said is what has got these rappers acting like they are bitch made to the center. If none of the bullshit is in the equation the greater rapper should and would not bitch out and go the popstar route if he was any type of man that gave a fuck about hiphop...

I wouldn't say its cowardly. And if I was Jay, I wouldn'tve responded to either of them cats. Here's why:

The shit with Beans seemed a lil deeper than music. That shit needed a fuckin' phone call. Even though I ain't a big fan of dude, I always felt like Beans was a real standup nigga who ain't soming at nobody sideways just for no reason.

I remember when Remy used to throw pot shots at Foxy, with the whole "Waddup wit dat battle?" scheme. And Foxy would be like, "I'm not gonna put myself in the position to get beat by a no name." Someone like Foxy has everything to lose; Remy has everything to gain. Realistically, if Foxy were to respond to Remy and Remy smashed her, Remy would have gotten herself a whole lot of notoriety, and a career. In other words...she'd be the new "King Bitch"and Foxy would be the former "King Bitch", who just got beat in a battle by a no name who called her out just looking for attention in hopes to gain some fame, and succeeded.

I truly believe the whole "You're not on my level" thing is a good enough reason to ignore someone. It's just the truth. Jay has nothing to gain from battling Game. He has everything to lose, though.

So basically your saying Jay is no longer a HipHop artist and he is now fully Pop so not part of the HipHop dynamics of battle nor subject to the criteria of a true HipHop artist? Anywhich way he is not dealing with a no name in any of his challengers whether it is Cam, 50, Beans, or Game all are high calibur artists and dodging them is a bitch move against the spirit of HipHop. but with the way rap used to be, we wouldnt even let you have the crossover. the rapper would show you what real crossover looks like and then dunk on your muthafukkin azz to boot. and then he would prolly beat you up for having the gall to call him out. jin would not roast a lot of nyggas in battles cause rappers who make hit songs can also light a nygga up in a battle. the same is not true going the other way. battling is only one element of being a mc, so in a real battle, the battle mc will lose cause usually hes only proficient in that area, but lacks everywhere else.(fukk what yall say, nelly beat krs)
