Lost Tapes better than most Nas' album. Beat selection on smash, unlike most his stuff post IWW and before Hip Hop is Dead

Half the songs already leaked and were out for years prior to the release of Lost Tapes. The rest were leftover tracks from Stillmatic, how should that count as a real Nas project?

Oh so it's a term y'all just made up.

Nah it's just not being used correctly. A side project would be something like The Firm or Distant Relatives. An album of previously unreleased songs and b-sides by one artist isn't a side project.

Yea I wouldn't call Lost Tapes a side project, he just put together old songs that didn't make the album he originated them for. Not sure why more rappers don't do this tho.

Didn't he have issues doing this the second time because of issues with the label?

Who knows with Nas, he's always throwin shit out there like with the Preemo project. Could be that or a number of diff things.

What could be the problem is that he may try to put eggs in baskets that don't match. Example, he owes Sony a full length LP. Gets another deal Columbia for an album, full length, EP and Bravehearts album or some shit. Another deal with E1 for some singles and a deal with Prioroty for a soundtrack song.

Say he never puts them out but records them. They end up in a vault and never fulfills his obligation.

Fast forward they want to put something out that's not called a greatest hits album, i.e. Lost Tapes. He or any other artist might have issues doin that depending on the session the song was created in too

Well Nas himself considers it a side project so I don't know.

unreleased material r u still down > lost tapes

as far as side project does blackstar count since it was only 1 album

Not only is Lost Tapes the best side project, but they're songs that didn't even make the album.

Nas's throwaway tracks are bester than most people's albums.

I'd put Lost Tapes up against Ready To Die, Me Against The World, Death Certificate, Only Built For Cuban Linx, The Chronic, Doggystyle, etc. And those are throwaway tracks.

I don't care what nobody says. The Lost Tapes IS an official studio album released under not just ILLWILL Records, but COLUMBIA records. Being in a contract with a record company, you have to release a certain of albums, in a certain amount of time, etc.

Just because you put songs on an album that you recorded years before, don't mean it's not an official album.

Great example ILLMATIC's (1994) track HALFTIME .. that was a record for a movie album or something like that (Zebra Head) in '92.. sooo..
