rip.dilla;3025321 said:So why's he still around?
Why didn't his ass stay retired after '03?

Maybe it's about individual accomplishments at this point (number 1 albums, awards, etc)
Maybe he makes music because it's the center piece to his brand, all the clothing, contracts, etc are dependent of him staying music relevant.
Basically for many of reasons, there is nothing he can really do at this point in his career, he has already proven everything music wise. Maybe it's just the other shit now.

This is not about subject matter. This is about his skills and level of creativity withering. He spits bullshit throwaway bars more often than ever.
Can he make a hit now? Sure.
Can he drop dope ass verses? Hell yes.
Does he have the same passion, hunger, desire, etc. to just spazz on a track and go into beast mode? I don't see it.
His verses and lyrics are less heartfelt and impactful. It's all predictable.
mostvigorousone;3025448 said:Jay should get his mind right and rap until at least 60 though
Mr.Audigier216;3025277 said:1st off, that was a personal soundtrack to the movie...he just did it cuz he could, if u listen to the album, it tells the life of Frank Lucas as a soundtrack, 2nd thats heroin lol
supaman4321;3025488 said:It wasn't the soundtrack to anything none of the people affiliated the movie had anything to do with him making an album, he just did what Jay does and leached on the hot thing at the time to make a buck because he knew he'd be able to rap about the same tired shit he's been wrapping about for damn near two decades
having said that American Gangster is the most recent album of his that still gets rotation he had some bangers on it but don't make it what it's not
