You seem to disregard that fact that Pun was up for a GRAMMY without the help of a machine behind him. He had a single that put the summer on smash "Still not a player" and that song "Deep Cover" with the infamous "dead in the middle of italy" line. Critical acclaim isn't the sole reason why Biggie is considered a GOAT and pun isn't. It's because Biggie showed us versatility in his music and rapped about shit the core hip hop audience could connect with. It's because he has a classic album as well as a great follow up. It's because his music stands the test of time (you think you'll hear old eminem cuts on the radio? lol). That's why.
Grammy does not equate to industry acclaim. I mean, these are the same people who gave Britney Spears an award but still haven't given Diana Ross one. They aren't credible.
Biggie has a case for GOAT because he has high industry acclaim, which equates to some form of impact. And impact is one of the prerequisites that determines the GOAT. Whatever you feel about Biggie is cool. But it can't be denied that RTD and LAD were both critically acclaimed and were met with high ratings by critics, consumers, and had high sales.
Same with Pac. And Em, too.
Pun's music was not that critically lauded. He had modest commercial success. His impact, musically, was mediocre.
A double platinum album and being nominated for a Grammy isn't enough to be considered a GOAT contender. And most seem to agree, considering Pun rarely gets mentioned in that conversation.
