Shit is getting on my nerves, Commerical hip hop is NOT the only hip hop. plenty of dope shit came out this year. stop being fucking lazy ass hip hop fans and start looking. And there has also been threads on them and im willing to bet that most of you niggas that agree with jamar, wasnt in those threads either

Commercial Hip Hop isn't the only Hip-Hop but we have to weigh the projects on cultural impact to some degree. A lot of those projects aren't making waves, regardless of their quality. And a lot the projects mentioned in the video weren't even commercial.

We shouldn't have to look though. That's what differentiates the old days to now.

Exactly. The fact that the good shit is being buried by all the garbage stands as a testament to how ass backwards the culture is right now.

All these years since 2008 have been the same shit. You get a few dope underground albums that no one knows unless you're on a hip hop message board or you're a fan of said artist. You get a few okay mainstream singles mixed in with garbage singles from garbage rappers in the mainstream.

No. I feel like Bodie and Poot on The Wire watching these older generation Hip Hop heads. Every year they talking about, "Oh, these kids are crazy! They're so out of control! Oh Lord the world's gonna end!"

Same shit different year. It was the end of times when Jeezy/Gucci touched down. Then Souljah Boy signaled the worst stuff ever. Then OJ da Jewmane. Wocka. On and on and on and on.

Ngga!!!!! I was about to use the same quote!

That's the dumbest shit

"I shouldn't have to look"

Then keep listening to bullshit you fucking clown

Who sits arond and actually says 'this was a bad year for hip hop'. How does that even come into your mind?!? I dont get it. Thats a conversation from a mainstream, sales, or historical sense. Thats something you look back on when you have a chance to sit and look at releases n so forth... but while its happening, at no time have i really said 'man, this was a bad year'

There's just too much music for that to be the case.

No one is that tunnel visioned to say a whole year is bad. B.c if a good project holds you down for a month, you mean to tell me there wasnt 10-12 mixtapes/albums in a whole year you fuked with?

For me alone Smoke DZA, Stalley, Currensy, Roddy, Jet Life x 5, Joe Budden, Game, Wiz, thats just off the top of the head. How could it be a bad ear for ME? ....but if you 'ranked' hip hop, none of those would be taken into account. B/c this question is loaded to look for the big wigs and sales.

Run the jewels

Cadillactica

Piñata

Black Hystori

Cilvia Demo

Mastermind

Seen it all

Curren$y dropped like 50 solid tapes

Still got Cole dropping in 3 weeks

Shit yg & schoolboy albums were solid

2014>>>2013

BOOM

Its a dumb premise. Even on the flipside, outside of obvious years like 96, you'd be hard pressed to say 'that was a good year in hip hop'

And even w/ that, if you asked that question IN 1996, no one would have the forsight to say 'yo this was a great year in hip hop!'

Its something that can only be assessed historically, with an aerial view

All you have to do is go on a hiphop website to find new music, good music. this year was a good year. Not a lot of big names rappers dropped this year but it's good overall music through out the year

Yall not properly understanding the scope of mediocrity of this year we didn't get alot of shit that we hate but everything else has be meh ok we have gotten any 4 mic albums no nada 3 or less only album I would nominate so far is logic album buts thats only a 3.5 imo

The ringtone rap era(2005-2009) was way worse.

And even this time period had its classics.. I just can't help to think that Hip-Hop fans talk about how bad Hip-Hop is, yet does nothing to enforce a change. Wanna know who isn't cinplaining about the state of Hip-Hop? The people who take the time to invest in their favorite artist. Mainstream or not.

Shit isn't really just about the music though. The argument is really based on Hip-Hop as a whole.

I said this before, but there was once a time when mainstream was not immediately synonymous with garbage. When our publications, and radio stations like Hot 97 actually played everything and the line between mainstream and underground was blurred. When we have former GOAT's complicit in the perpetuation of BS like Iggy then we have a problem. Dawg, when we have bullshit documentaries like that Aalyiah shit the other night? All of that is Hip-Hop as a whole.

If our music is weak, if our icons aren't representing right, if our outlets are trash, if our sales are poor to a certain extent, ect.

Then the culture is failing.
