We seem to be more concerned on developing technology to deceive and kill each other more efficiently. The first application of almost every new technology is always used in some way or fashion by the military. I agree that more focus should be geared towards the betterment of mankind as oppose to it's destruction. But for every ailment humanity faces, whether it be poverty or disease there is always someone behind the scenes making a profit.
