thinly veiled self promo thread

ohhhh

I C

lmao

I think it depend on your area and what kinda artist you are.

If you are a street artist then I think its best you focus on the streets and the clubs/strip clubs.

If your leaning towards more of the pop or conscious side then you may wanna get your internet marketing up because the streets aint bout to fuck wit you unless you already roll wit a gang of street dudes.

Honest fan feedback performance >>>>> both. The problem is either way people are sick of the bullshitted promo either

A) you posting 90 videos a week of yourself

B) your homie posting a video 90 times a week for you

C) wasting thousands of peices of paper nobody really sees

What you have to do is slowly but surely get respect from competitions and open performances and have people that don't know you or know you slightly be shocked at how good you are and tell friends to tell friends. I can see straight through niggas who have a friend that posts stuff just cause they their boy or a rapper who tries to over promote.

@poindexter2 i think the same thing but when it come down to the money sometimes you can only go one way at a time.

@blackjerrymaguire and @dat1dude7 in personal experience the streets will become your loyalest fans and after awhile the money isnt a object cause you gonna make it back with the right grind

and i dont mean just streets as in hood shit but i mean the streets as in your neighborhood and your demographic.

@dat1dude7 i just like to put a visual with my topics i got 2000+ views and no comments cause the streets are watching and passin it around but they dont have youtube accounts> no new subscribers or comments

Streets all the way.I remenber someone famous said.``If your town don´t follow you the labes wont respect you``.

About the producers...Get one on your team or turn yourself in one.....Also get someone that is good at taking photos and making videos or atleast try to do it.

waste atleast 3 hours of your time on that grind either promoting, making beats, making rhymes or w.e that has to do with your career.

oh yeah free shows...do all of them for like atleast 2 years b.

@monizzle14 so you saying take respect in the streets first this way you'll have some honest support online?

yes at least from my experiences. also to add on to that with that respect never try to make it feel like your forcing shit on niggas as far as follower counts or fan counts. if you have 200 ride or die fans thats better than 5,000 facebook fans and only 50 are ride or die. young niggas my age and slightly younger (21) too caught up in facebook fan counts and youtube views and followers when they an aritst. but heres the thing just because someone clicks like or follows or watches doesn't give you an honest look at how many people support your cause.

And when you try to force people to do something it turns them away forever sometimes for listening to your music. You could improve your craft of rapping by light years but have hundreds of niggas already sick of your facebook spam or campainging to get more fans that they don't give your new shit a chance.

Conversely if you start with loyal fans make pages and posters in small quanities and respectfully and then get your craft better niggas will be like damn this nigga getting better ima support him! Sorry if this is scattered across shit and long as fuck but its shit that if artists listen to I feel they could take their career slightly further.

Real fucking talk. And when you start so many people say you should spam more and that´s the dumbest thing.i think doing shows and selling your lil mixtapes go way more far then spamming the fuck outta facebook.I seen a nigga kill his career because of that.

Connections are the most important thing an artist can have

Wack niggas gettin paid off the strength of who they know, while many talented mcs never go beyond free mixtapes and open mic nights because they dont handle the business side correctly

You can promote all you want, in the streets or online, but unless you selling hundreds of thousands of copies and doing packed shows all by yourself, you need to network and meet people who can help your career advance

I agree with ya'll on that shit i get consumed in promoting my craft through "spamming".

@cabana_da_don and @monizzle14

As Artist and Producers when do you feel its the right time to start asking your fans and friends to push your music? and when do you feel you have the right to post your music on someone elses page? should you ask them if they wanna be updated with your music career?

@kushington thats true thats what im missing

Point taken. but thats when you start to build a team of investors. Internet promotion is basically free, if you know how to do it effectively, so most money will probably go to street promotion by default

@poindexter2 honestly internet promotion is not free that takes us back to "spamming" internet promotion done right is paying for a source that other people look to and rely on for updates. like my dude @kushington said you gotta find someone to advance your career and most of the time to do it without no trouble and to do it properly they are going to charge

Check these nobody DJ's charging 100 for a slot on they mixtape cause they get 10,000 downloads guaranteed smh they dont even promote your music they just put it on the tape and you hope 5 out of 5,000 downloads add you and stay listenin to your music

The Labels don't respect artists. The Internet first streets second. There are no real politics on the internet to deal with. On

the other hand If the people in ya city know what you doing they can throw a wrench in ya shit. So blow up on the internet

first because then you got shit to show the people that you already official so they gon fuck with you regardless.

also how many people in this thread are doing promotion actively just wondering

Seriously homie.Take your time. When your shit is hot or near a proffessional level niggas will ask to get your shit.Put out a single.Get that single online and on other Mc´s and dj´s around your area. While you are working on an EP.Wit like 8-10 songs.Do couple shows like half a set..Or open mics.Hook up wit another artist and open shows for them.Try to get some love off that single.build a team behind you. Then drop the EP.You wont get mad love but your name will be out there. If you can do some streeteam. With people by yourself w.e b.Then repeat the cycle. And the rest is politics(the hardest part).

I hope I helped you.

But remenber to drop a single first before dropping the whole EP.Son.

Let me put you on some game though.DON´T ONLY RAP.BECOME A PRODUCER TOO.It saves time,You don´t have to kiss no producers ass to buy beats or get them for free plus you get major exposure by producing other niggas.Word to kanye, havoc, evidence, alchemist and all the other rapping producing nigs.
