Great thread fam. Im gonna sticky this 2moro afternoon just to help diffuse any of the preconceived notions ppl have of the south. This type of stuff NEEDS to be shown to ppl. Theres more to the south than "candy paint" & "dance songs". Niggas be forgetting that the south has bred some of the most talented & creative artists of all time so I definitely respect this thread fam.

There are quite a few posters on this site who think having a southern drawl makes you stupid or retarded. Down here we just have a distinct sound to our speech. Niggas will call Gucci retarded but it takes smarts(whether book or street) to make it to where he is right now. I think alotta times though in hip-hop some fans can't hear consciousness in a southern drawl because they equate it TOO much to booty shaking trunk music. Take KRIT for example. The boy can spit but if ur not from the south sometimes you may not understand his accent and get turned off to that. The reason Gucci gets away with it is because most ppl outside the south only listen to a Gucci song for the chorus and the beat. Krit is a lyricist though.......

My point is that appearance and behavior in addition to a southern accent can influence peoples perception more than just the accent alone.
