I take it back to when we was rockin tapes

No cds so we just had to let the record play

I'd still fast forward to my favourite track if I couldn't wait

Was about '98, on some shit about pullin weight

We went from vinyls, 8-tracks, tapes to cds

MP3s are the present, so what's next?

What's best? All I need is the sounds through the speakers

The medium don't matter, it's the music that makes me eager

That makes me fiend like an addict, never minded the static

Of the vinyls or the rugged sound of Illmatic

We progressing through the continuum,

These old tapes passed on the legacy so it's up to us to continue 'em

Continue carrying on the essence of our art form

Demand more from ourselves as we transform

The game, hold its message but evolve to a higher echelon

No Teflon Don but I shoot for number one when I'm bossin on

Thought Hip-hop was Dead but it was just in Relapse

2010 is its Recovery so we can just relax

Sit back and watch my magic, you can Thank Me Later

Common Used to Love H.E.R, I wonder, now would he date her?

We've given her a facelift but her heart is in the right place

I fancy the girl, always thought I had nice taste

But fuck it, I'ma throw on AOTP's Unholy Terror

As I count Revolutions per Minute on my record player.

Way back when shit was hot like Pete Rock,

Had me on the block slanging rocks,

Back then I didn’t even own stocks.

I had the whole hood on lock,

Kats was sprung, running from the cops,

Me and baby bro was living the hard knock,

We were homeless and had to live in parking lots,

While people was putting money in casino slots.

Way back every meal was a blessing and materials was not,

And I even remember when we first had our big mac,

And when night fall we sat on park benches he cried and I’d tell him to stop,

Watched crack homes get hit up by swats.

Our first apartment, he came home and said “sis, look at all the shit I bought”,

We had many ups and downs, and yea we fought,

I sit here and write this with my throat twisted up in knots,

Our life was once such big rot,

Mother and a father we both lacked,

Now he gone I hope he has them back.

Way back is when I and he complain of the hot,

Nights I spent waiting for him to return home just looking at the clock,

That was my baby bro, he always had my back,

I should had never sent him to the store for my dumb wraps,

Little did I know his life was gonna be a wrap,

I sit here thinking of the time we use to drink and rap,

And that was way back, we went further than that..

Today is his birthday and gawd I miss him like crazy!

RIP little bruh! :,-(

damn good ear for beats...I think I love you lol this hit me hard

way back

when my memory was tatted up with lyrics

like a cracker jack gift licked

jus drippin off my arm

thanks to ear drum resin

slidin slowly down my thoughts

a pencil was the pistol in my palm

I am mental off a fifth of Psalms

I am superficial when is comes to Hip Hop

My consciences speaks to me like a Big Rube poem

I am known

from way back

I let my tape rock til my tape popped

then it hit the radio and changed

no more cursin

got a chick on the hook sangin'

no Tekitha or Blue Razz

no Erykah, Alicia or Mary J

no Cee lo, Anthony Ham or even some Nate

no D'angelo, Devin the Dude or Dwele

only some AutoTuned Headache

a lil acronym that I'm used to saying

"I hate me some of "A-T-PAIN"

my chest is hurtin

gotta to turn off this bullshit and never play it again

time to brush off the walkman

my cross-coloured garments

backwards pants

timb boots

turn back the cap

reach into the underground's crate and go way back

I remember back then I might not of copped J's
But I always rocked Pennies with my high top fade
Ridin round In my moms new white drop paid
first memory is when the Pirates and the white sox played
Around the same time my pops got knocked
and my mom copped rocks, I grew into a man before the shops got locked
overnight and in a minute been winnin since I did it
10 years old tryin to keep the heat on in the winter
and my big brother sinnin
on the strip teeth grinnin trickin off cheap woman
then he got knocked, and my home fell off
but I aint start to sell rocks, laced up my shell tops
Me and Reggie ran the courts from north to south park
This about the time my first action happened
Shanelle in my bedroom gigglin and laughin
couple hours later we was shocked what happened
but that was the past and that ass been a has been
By 14 I was stackin, my mom relapsin
Strong bodied and hard headed so my minds relaxin
15 I was heavy in hustlin ball, spent hours in the post out musclein y'all
That shit was like a business when the customers called
Cause 50 dollars every game at that time I was lovin it dawg
Who would of thought as time passed it would be my past time
But thats life and mines right, and soon enough Ill add on to the last line

Tripping off the beat

repeat the steps and keep it knocking

plotting on dropping a rhyme to the melody

black n mild smoking toting laughing at the moon

after a quick stroke til the end of noon

booming headphones DJ style

directing traffic with the finger and a bag of cds

mixtapes lollygagging and bragging of the days

where hip hop pays and philly had it made

old school fanatic but experiencing tragic reminders

that its time to move the fuck on

so on and so go begone the past years

of past tears from eyes, inside thighs, and spirit experiencing jeers

remind the reflection of the motivation

keep moving and stepping upon different location

regardless of the folks that bring you down and surround you

keep being yourself and past through
