It Was Written has more classic songs, better production and more replay value. It's also aged a hell of a lot better. Only elitists say Illmatic is better because they prefer the deeper and more meaningful content. They hate the flossing and flashiness of IWW. IWW was nas at his best. He got the balance absolutely perfect. There's only 7 songs I enjoy on Illmatic. Halftime and One Time sound way too outdated. The beats are weak. Illmatic overall is just a very boring album. IWW is more entertaining and like a movie.

Never been a fan of IWW as a whole... it has some classic trks, but as a body of work it has a lot of skips.... "Nas is Coming" is horrible

It's simple really. When you stop letting The Source Mic-rating system make your decisions for you and think for yourself, you can begin to grade the albums objectively. IWW had better stories, concepts, singles, etc. Was anything on Illmatic on par with "I Gave You Power" conceptually? Did he tell any story on Illmatic as vividly as he did on "Shootouts?"

I've listened to Nas is coming many times, you are a group thinking lame if that's the only reason iww is not a classic to you, Nas murked that beat, hook is atrocious that's about it, it didn't hurt the cohesiveness of the album at all, but still Illmatic>>>>

illmatic is the old testament and it was written was the new testament

yes the old testament has the law and rules

but the new testament has the real reason and purpose for living life and gets into more intense followings and lessons for life

while i appreciate the ground rules to spitting on illmatic and understand its importance at times the reason i am a nas fan and what makes me the most excited is the gospel and stories and (mafioso) lifestyle that is shared in IWW.
