In what universe is It was written better than illmatic?

IWW has aged well and has become beloved by fans and critics alike. It's on par with any other album of '96. I don't think it's better than Illmatic. The latter is just too immaculate in its construction to be challenged by IWW, but I do think IWW is a classic rap album, and Nas' second best work.

The reason some people might prefer it to Illmatic is because IWW displays Nas' more mature style and flow, and the content better reflects the kind of artist he would go on to be, full of contradictions, flaws, brilliance and all. Illmatic on the other hand is, in my view, a work of rarefied cohesion and genius by a young prodigy that is still unmatched by any album in hip-hop, and few outside the genre.

Nah i flat out like iww better. shootouts, live nigga rap, silent murder, black girl lost, that whole lp fire start to finish. One time, half time are weak illmatic is a strong 7 songs vs 15

Stop smoking

Those tracks were hard

It's simple really. When you stop letting The Source Mic-rating system make your decisions for you and think for yourself, you can begin to grade the albums objectively. IWW had better stories, concepts, singles, etc. Was anything on Illmatic on par with "I Gave You Power" conceptually? Did he tell any story on Illmatic as vividly as he did on "Shootouts?"

I didn't come to this understanding until my late 20s so I can't fault any youngin for preferring IWW. When I was a teen I put IWW and I Am above Illmatic.

Both are classic to me, I always change my mind on what album I like better and I personally think illmatic is underrated sonically...I love the smooth jazzy boom bap feel of the album

And this is why I believe IWW is his best album

Organized Konfusion already did a gun metaphor joint in 1994. there's no reason why a 1992-1994 Nasty Nas wouldn't come up with the same type of joint. Yeah he told a vivid story on Illmatic - One Love.

Street Dreams has to be one of the worst Nas singles imo especially when Pac already used that beat.. He went from Nasty Nas to acting like he's Robert De Niro in the MV. Illmatic simply has too much firepower on one album. you go through the tracklist and it's nothing but classic tracks.

and I still can't believe IWW beat out The Infamous in the head to head poll.

Smfh

Nas version was better pac tho

Lyrically Illmatic is the best album ever then you add another classic It Was Written into the catalog along with I Am, God Son, Hip Hop is Dead, Untitled , and Distant Relatives and its clear as day Nas the best rapper alive.

All eyez on me>>>>street dreams

Lets not get carried away in here

What!? Street Dreams is clearly better than aeom. Street dreams was more creative. Pac was saying same shit on that track.

We poll a while back and the majority said nas shit was way better.
