Wale and Stalley are not street rappers bruh

that's the thing i hate about Roc Nation the life time wait for artist development... and that My boss have a 360 deal, then does the artist also some how gets swept in to that equation as well??

I don't mean street as in what they rap about, but how their movement started, who embraced them first. More of a grassroot movement!

What's wrong with waiting, timing is everything in the music business. Look at J Cole situation dude became a millionaire off touring alone due to the Live Nation deal, he opened up for Rihanna (cross branding), and then you get the publishing (all his commercials).

Sure J Cole is signed to a 360 deal, but atleast he is signed to a label that's gonna fight for him to win as much as possible because the harder they work for him, the more money they make.

Personally, I don't feel the idea of being signed under another rapper. MMG would be my second choice, but either way an artist is going to have to do a certain amount of grinding on their own if they want to be taken seriously by any label. They have to generate a certain amount of interest and demand on their own. Big Sean, a new artist, managed to get an album on the shelves because he had a certain amount of buzz and a hit single. It's the same w/ MMG and how Wale and Meek Mill are a priority over the other artists signed to the label.
C/s on the artist grinding for themselves, that's very important , i remeber 50 on the radio talkin about getting signed to a label is just the beginning u gotta grind as if u were just indy or an up n coming...
n @ big sean
don't forget a kanye west co-sign, but how Def Jam handle jeezy for the past year and a half just don't look right for an up n comer such as myself looking at someone with a track record like jizzle... and then Rozay who is the HOTTEST in the game for the past 2 years straight...

You have to take into account all these record contracts are 360 deals (Def Jam, YMCMR, MMG,Roc). Why would you sign a 360 deal if the label speciality isn't touring, publishing, branding, etc. To me that's where Roc Nation has the upper hand over these other labels, they are a multidimensional company.

honestly naw, but i like how he's doing his thing, i know it's mostly because of himself, but still dude is gonnna be performing at coachella and newyork don't really fuck wit em like that, to me that's huge...

The thing with ASAP Rocky is he made a company/record label (ASAP Worldwide) thats distributed by RCA. Ppl don't realize at least 1.5 million of that 3 million deal went to that. They gonna release an ASAP Mob record this year as well.

Actually i think i'd signed to Roc Nation. I feel like they are almost like an independent label with a bigger budget.nd look at the producers signed there

idk artist devolpment sounds like it's more for female R&B artists and teenage heart throbs

u sound right, but i was told 360's are a no no...
n let's be honest, the industry is like everything else in life up n down. one minute u hot, then the next u not, then u hot again... so to sign a 360 would be like literallly selling ya soul, that shyt is the epitome of greed from the music industry ..

hypothetically if jay next album was to flop, then live nation get they hands on 40/40 club revenue , his deal with Duracell, HP, ace of spade, rocawear (if he still owns that) and everything else the jiggaman own and work hard for himself

I'd sign to G-Unit.

50-Cent has proven himself to be an excellent CEO with business moves like signing Shawty Lo and Pauly D from Jersey Shore.

You could get automatic duets from Spider Loc & 40 Glocc and video appearances from Tony Yayo and Hot Rod.

Plus 50-Cent has a good track-record of promoting his artists like Game and Young Buck and he helped Mobb Deep & MOP expand their fan base.

.......lastly you could have access to his production team and wardrobe consultants.

All labels do 360 deal now, the music business is at a state where albums aren't selling and labels want a piece of your touring, publishing, etc money.

Live Nation has nothing to do with Jay-z side businesses. They fund the record label and Roc Nation recoups that money through touring from Rihanna, J Cole, Jay, Alexis Jordan and all those big name producers they manage. Why do you think Jay-z is slowly putting out artist, he is doing the minimum to recoup and fulfill the 10 year obligation. Watch him turn the label into something big as soon as his contract is up with Live Nation or renegotiate for a bigger contract.

Surprised nobody mentioned Strange music it seems to have worked out well for Jay Rock, and from what I hear N9ne is a business man and makes smart moves and handles his paper properly.

Maybach music is also a viable choice, Wale and Meek Mill have been doing good since they signed a ot better than most of they peers and Ross seems like he's the type of cat to let his artists shine, something that a lot of rappers who are running labels don't do.

Def Jam at the moment is a bad choice but if they put the right person in charge (Irv Gotti) then I'd have to seriously consider it.
