If jay did this would it have changed the course of the Nas beef?

Takeover is the better song. I think any objective person would admit that. It's a top 5 Jay z song imo. But it isn't a great diss record at least when it comes to Nas. The diss hinges on the "1 hot album" line, which admittedly is a great line, it just isn't true, especially for the casual hip hop fan. The "1 hot album" line was aimed at the so called "real" hip hop fans, but they weren't the ones who were going to decide who won the battle, the casual fan was. Most casual hip hop fans had never even heard of Illmatic, so for them the entire narrative around Nas's career really didn't come into play.

Yo did Nas reject Vlad for an interview or something?? Dude seems to have a weird obsession with Nas and he would always bring his name up a lot and then he gets shocked when dudes put Nas as either the greatest or top 3. It just feels very unhealthy from Vlad when Nas's name is brought up.

I'm not sure if Takeover was a better song, but Ether came out of nowhere. Jay was hogging up the radio waves for 3 consecutive years and everybody had written Nas off. Then out of nowhere he drops Ether.

What made Ether so powerful was the fact that Jay released SupaUgly the following day and Hot 97 took a poll and Nas won.

If Jay had never released SupaUgly then it would have been Takeover vs Ether. But Jay dropped the ball and instead of Takeover vs Ether it was Ether vs SupaUgly.

If Jay didn't release SupaUgly it would have been a tie.

he had to release supa ugly because Takeover was actually a reply to H to the Homo wich was a reply to the summer jam jab...so yeah Jay lost

people always forget that diss ,ran through the whole ROC effortlessly with supreme flow

Its the stories around them that makes Nas win. Like, Jay always thanked Nas in his album notes. "Who the best emcees? Biggie, jay z and Nas" and then stories of Jay always trying to do songs with Nas and Nas would never show up.

Like Jay was basically on Nas tip heavy, looking for attention and Nas never gave him any.

So when all that is considered, the whole baby moms thing to me looks worse for Jay. Like all these stories of Jay looking like a straight fan and then he even fucks Nas' ex after they broke up?

Shits kinda disgusting.

And I know people live and die for Jay and Nas. My perspective is coming from a dude who dont care. Just how I interperted all the stories coming out around that time.

Having said that, Jay is still one of my favorite MCs.
