You have to appeal to women, they're the ones buying records right now.

That's the easy thing to say is just cater to them like drake that's what some sellout nigga would do. However if you work hard grow your base and defy your odds without comprimising your style it could be done. Concerts are the new album anways and cole has soldout every college show in the northeast where i live. There is nothing wrong with making songs like in the morning every now and then but cole is staying true to who he his without having cheap watered down songs about love. Women are smarter than the shitty pop lame drake songs people think women go gaga on.

niggas need to realize that hip hop has gotten so big that you can't judge an artist strictly on what the hood is checking for anymore.

Yeah, RIGHT NOW....but that shit doesn't last long, just Ja Rule, Nelly, 50 and in a couple of years ask Drake.

J. Cole is more suited to be more of a Nas/Common/Talib Kweli type of artist....start off slow and build a loyal fanbase that will support you 10 years from now. He'll never go platinum, shit he may never even go gold, but he'll be around longer than these artist who have fickle ass mainstream fanbases

That's why I said right now. Yeah, Cole is going to have to recreate himself as an artist in order to stay in the game for any long period of time. At the sametime, It's important in any genre - especially hip hop - to have the ability to reach the masses by any means. Since hip hop is always changing - from the flow to the beat, etc - any emcee who falls behind ends up becoming fans themselves. Do I think Cole has longevity in him? I think that's undetermined at this point. Don't get me wrong, I like Jay-Z and all but judging from his roster, he surrounded hisself with subpar emcees who only can make Jay look better. That's just IMO

So J Cole and Jay Electronica are subpar mcs now?

You niggas say some of the dumbest fucking shit i swear and J Cole will be more than good to reinvent himself because he produces his own music and is continuously getting better. I helps alot that NO ID is mentoring him and it looks like Dr Dre is gonna work with him too.

There is nothing to admit, your dumbass didn't even look at the date of the numbers when you posted which only proves you don't read. J Cole would rather do it on his own, he ain't hugging Jay-z nuts like how Drake does Lil Wayne, imagine a artist doing it the old fashion way of artist development and building a fanbase.
