What if that's apart of his normal lexicon? Oops, I said lexicon, so clearly I'm trying to sound smart. If dude has an expansive vocabulary and wishes to utilize it in the hope that *gasp* listeners may learn, then why knock him for it? Just because the word isn't commonly used doesn't mean everybody should avoid it. Orwell is one writer, and Lupe is another. Two different people, writing styles, and forms of entertainment. Maybe he used that word because it fit the flow.

It can come off as pretentious. But let's be honest, when writing using the same word over and over can be tiresome. Synonyms help cure that monotony when a certain word consistently is being used.

Rap is also about rhyme. When your message needs to coincide with rhyme schemes dictated by the first bar of the verse knowing synonyms helps a ton.

If you wanna rhyme 2 syllables vocab does not mean anything. But if you're trying to rhyme 4-5 then it is crucial.
