Been meaning to make this thread. Ice T is overlooked by the masses as one of the Godfathers of "gangsta rap".

Two songs of his standout for me and they are both in the OP. These aren't tracks celebrating hood life. He takes you inside the mental of the LA gang banger(Colors) and the Everytown, USA dope dealer(NJH). Both songs are classic. I put them up there with The Message when it comes to social commentary.

Good thread, Sir.

SIIIIIIIX IN THE MORNING PO-LEASE AT MY DOOOOOOR'... One of the best opening lines in hip hop imo, whenever I hear that and the beat drops:

One of the first rappers to come in the game with money

I remember him being on Oprah Winfrey and holding his nuts like a G

Power is my favorite song

Just came in to salute Ice-T. Not just as an mc but a BBOY. Ice-T is\was down with the Zulu Nation and Afrika Islam produced Ice's debut Rhyme Pays.

What year did colors come out?

Colors, the movie and song came out in the spring of 1988. The Soundtrack was dope too.

Then Ice-T's Power album came out in the fall, like around September, but Colors wasn't on the album.

Thats what i say, ice wasn't glorifying nothing, he did a good job conveying what street life is about.

And when you hear him talk in an interview, you could tell he's very intelligent too
