Ice Cube vs LL Cool J

Impact. From NWA to his solo career, to Boyz n the hood, to the Friday series, not too many have done more for the culture than Cube.

From strictly a music perspective. His first 3 albums were classics if we're counting SAC. LL is great to a lesser degree, but we're talking a Mt Rushmore type hip hop career. Scarface said when he started rhymin, cube and chuck D was how he became who he was. Think about that, Scarface bruh.....

LL was the truth, but Cube is a 5 star OG in the game. Opened a lot of doors too, and was possibly the most important writer in west coast hip hop's rise. If Ice T was the father of Gangster Rap, Cube wrote the bible.

I figured most people would vote for Cube due to the age bracket of the average poster.

But LL was a beast when Cube was just getting started, and he lasted longer. LL was still hot in the early 2000s with Luv U Better, Paradise and that song he did with J Lo. Cube's rapping career was pretty much over by that point.

What? Radio dropped in 85 and SOC came out in 88. Cube came out the gate straight spitting first with NWA, than with 3 straight fire albums with AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted, Death Certificate, and The Predator.

Plus It Was a Good Day is my top 3 all time rap song.

Yeah but the part you bolded was true. LL released two full length albums before Straight Outta Compton. LL was clearly first.

Who cares which came out of the gate first? Who got more classic albums that they've been a part of?

You forgetting shit again huh? Alzheimer's kicking in again? Laugh Now Cry Later had a lot of dope ass cuts on it and that came out in 2006, War & Peace Vol. 2 came out in 2000 and had some dope cuts on it too. Plus the Next Friday soundtrack. Don't play that selective memory, favouritism shit

Well I don't remember any of those singles from those albums coming on MTV or BET. That might not be the be all end all measuring stick but I don't remember anything from those albums you named.

LL had albums in 2008 and 2013. I could talk about LL's more recent stuff but what's the point.

LOL @ you not remembering those Ice cube joints because you was too busy rockin wit Cool J and Jennifer Lopez as if that aint even more forgettable.

Just stop it man!

I hear what you're saying. Truly I do.

But you had to be there between 1985-1988. LL was the undisputed GOAT. He had those two albums back to back (Radio and Bigger and Deffer) when cats like Rakim and KRS were just getting started.

He released a single in early 1988 with Going Back To Cali on one side and Jack The Ripper on the other side. You have no idea how big those two songs were.

Going Back To Cali - LL Cool J
=RDFdizL4on-Rc

Jack The Ripper - LL Cool J

^^^ Those two songs were LL's In Da Club, Control Freestyle, A Milli, Trap Queen, 0-100 and Hot Nigga all rolled up into one (or two).

LL was kinda 2nd fiddle to Run DMC even when he was hot.

Nah, LL took Run DMC's shine.

LL rapped about the ladies and for the ladies. He created that lane. Run DMC pretty much rapped about nothing, thats what they fell off.

cube easily in his prime he has two of the most impactful albums and two of those that dropped were from him

amerikka's most wanted death certifcate.

Why do you assume when ppl don't agree with you it's because of "their age" or "they weren't there?"

Dude, we remember LL in his prime. He was rapping soft love tunes for girls and his "hard" stuff was like PG-13 "I'm Bad." His album's are like Ice T described, about nothing. Some hip-hoppity shit like "My Rhyme Ain't Done," "Rock The Bells," "Bristol Hotel," and "Radio."

I'm not dissing LL cuz he did what an emcee of that era did and he did it well but Cube was on a WHOLE nother level and changed the game. Made songs that actually meant something to people. Plus rhyme for rhyme, song for song, album for album, he just crushes LL and his cookies.

cosign this entire post because it is like even people that were old enough to remember "ll's prime"

would tell u that cube had a better prime in their opinion.

but how old are u were is irrelevant anyway because if u think somebody is music better your age is irrelevant so...........

Don't try to explain shit to this coastal bias dude. He do these kinda threads thinking everybody gonna hate just like he does. But its got to be soul burning him that Cool J getting the shit kicked outta him in the polls.

He said he was down with Farrakhan...and then he did a St Ides Commercial

But that makes sense now because Farrakhan is in bed with Seagrams.

Money talks. Allah is just a side hustle.

Took me longer to click vote than to think about this. I fuck with some of LL's old music, but this is an easy decision. 60% of LL's music is strictly panty dropping material.
