Ice Cube Speaks on Ghostwriting in Hip-Hop

He became a millionaire thanks to ghostwriting so of course he's gonna vouch for it.

He right though because every genre outside of rap has that same viewpoint.

The thing is for some it becomes a thin line but at the same time there have always been MC's and there have been rappers and a clear distinction between both titles.

The MC's are more meticulous with the words and that's why Cube himself didn't need a ghostwriter he was an MC. MC means master of ceremony cause an MC could hold it down under any situation. Whether it's moving a crowd or being eloquent and sparking something in people's minds and hearts. They're the true wordsmiths of the game.

However rappers are the ones who could make something really pop with their own flavor cause they're entertainers first and foremost on the mic. Dre and Eazy were great rappers thanks to the MC's (Cube and Ren) holding them down with their pen. If Cube and Ren would've rapped on Express Yourself or Boyz n the Hood the songs would be nothing like we remember them for better or worse. It was catered to their personalities and deliveries as rappers.

Well, he'd have to agree....its a known fact that his cousin Del wrote Gangsta Fairytale on Cubes 1st solo album AMW

When your younger u expect every mc to write ALL of their own songs, but as u get older u realistically understand why they all dont all the time....i inagine your creative juices are gonna dry up sometime, or your gonna get hit with an ill case of writers block sometimes

...im not saying everbody, but the more in demand you are the more pressure to release nothing but tight songs.

...shit i even read the run-dmc biography, i think they had a lil help on an album of theirs (and they were considered the ultimate b-boys in their prime)...so nothing surprises me now in terms of that

Just googled it, Del also wrote Who's The Mack on Cubes 1st album too....Del also ghostwrote for Yo-Yo too.

This is like 1 big nightmare.

Its 1 thing for fans to still listen, but my goodness when the actual respected artists have a 'oh well' response do they even realize he path their creating. Geez man

Cube had a song wrote for him.

Its like grown dudes dreams are being shattered with these recent "revelations".

I stopped believing rappers' raps early in high school.

Just appreciate the music for what it is.

Not about believability.. its about creativity and talent. We all know majority of what these rappers spit is fabricated madeup bullshit but at least they come up with it.

Yea for the most part they come up with it. But when your passion also becomes your job and u have to deal with the politics of labels and other artists im sure there are times when your stress overrides your inspiration for creativity or u have writers block but u gotta get that album done.

I dont like the idea of artists buying verses anymore than the next fan but if thats the reality it is what it is. Just cuz theyre legends to us dont mean they arent human or never need help.

I don't like this ghost writing shit. Regardless of who has done it, needing a ghost writer means you weren't suppose to be on the mic. And it has allowed the fake to flourish instead of being filtered out the game like nature intended. It's why everyone can't be a painter, everyone can't be a illustrator, everybody can't write poetry, and so fourth. That lane is suppose to be reserved for the people that belong there, not the ones that can buy/fake their way in.

IDK who Cube wrote for after NWA,but he didn't make millions off that. That's why he left and I doubt they ever straightened that out.he's not getting publishing for those early songs.

i don't respect a nigga not writing his shit, but I respect the game and I would ghostwrite for ppl.I have for indie artists before.
