Well, I understand that most of you don't know how film works, but I'm in Independent Film so let me break down how it works...
When a producer does a movie, they are assuming 99% of the risk..it's not like music where the producer takes a back seat to the rapper. The reason why is simple, at the end of the day, the actor is paid, WAY before the movie even begins shooting (unless arrangements have been made where they get paid under circumstances like deferment..like hey we're doing this movie for 10k, but if it grosses over 300k, I'll pay you 15k)...
The actor assumes no risk, if the movie doesn't get made, or if it gets produced halfway...or if it gets produced and doesn't find distribution (the hardest part of indy films)..the actor still gets their money, even if the producer loses EVERYTHING. There are no royalities in film for the most part (I mean it is RARE, and usually happens when an actor cannot be paid up front due to budget, or cannot be paid a full amount).
Tucker got paid what he signed up for, you don't go back and re-pay someone because you made more money..that's like if you sign up on twitter, and then use it to sell and market a product, you don't go back to the owners of twitter and say...hey, I know you didn't charge me for your services, but I made 500k, so here's 50k..thanks
Plus, you need to realize that what a film grosses, does NOT go to Cube's pocket..he was the producer, not the investor..so therefore the money goes to Distributor first ..then Investor..then Producer, and Cube produced it with Quik..so it goes 50/25/25...meaning 50% of the money to Distributor (New Line I think)...25% to Investors (or whatever they agree'd on, could've been more...) and the rest to Cube/Quik...(and anyone who they might've had working on deferrment)..
Now after they built a brand, and Friday and Cubevision become household names, that's when you offer your returning actors more money..or they ask for more money and you replace them, your choice..but Cube would've paid Tucker more, he knew Smokie's impact on the film, and had to re-write the second movie to get him out of it...
