The Arsenio Hall Show got cancelled. For the younger generation that doesn't remember, Arsenio Hall had a GOAT late night show from 1989-1994. The first reason it was GOAT is because he had LL Cool J on back in 89 and LL invented the term GOAT. He had Kool Moe Dee on the next week and they discussed their beef. Arsenio didn't just have rappers perform but they sat on his couch and he talked with them for five or ten minutes. Other late night hosts like Dave Letterman, Johnny Carson, Jay Leno and Joan Rivers might of had a rapper perform once or twice a year but they weren't sitting on the couch.

So anyway, Arsenio Hall, Yo! MTV Raps, Rap City, a syndicated show called Pump It Up with host Dee Barnes were all on the air during that era. If you lived in New York City they had Video Music Box with Ralph McDaniels which came out in 1984 and I think its still running. This was before the internet so if you were really into Rap you might schedule your weekend around those shows.

So that was 25 years ago. Arsenio Hall got back on the air last year but they cancelled it. Fair enough. I'd like to see the so-called rap moguls bring the show back. Even if it doesn't get the ratings, its the principle. We can't let our shows get cancelled because White people don't watch it. Even if the show loses money and doesn't make a profit from sponsors it should still be on the air. We owe it to Hip Hop and Arsenio Hall who is really the first Late Night Hip Hop talk show host.

So you want some of the wealthiest, most influential figures in Hip Hop to pool their resources together and set aside years and years of personal issues.... for a talk show?

Not a Black owned major distribution company. Not an alternative media outlet. Not some sort of organization which could topple the existing corporate structure which has degraded the culture into the clusterfuck it is today...

You talmbout a talk show?

^^^^^^Thanks sir coon a lot smh

But it's called making a STATEMENT. Ofcourse you wouldn't know anything about that being the new generation of swagged out jiggaboo's. It would definitely make a statement if niggaz like Diddy, Jay & 50 all helped put another black man on his feet.

Why not empower another young cat with a show? There are way more black men in the world, why he hung up on just one of them?

Arsenio had his run(s), let duke step back and put a young brother or sister in that spot.

Of course this is hypothetical, because we know most these niggas ain't getting involved with no shit like this.

Why when certain blacks get successful, niggas feel the need they need to address every black issue. When I say address I mean put their hard earn money.

Arsenio had his time, his show did not relate to this newer generation. Imo If someone like Chappelle was to host a show it would do better.

This thread proves why there is no heritage of wealth in the black community. The very notion of black industry abhors niggaz. Stay mindfucked.

I would like to see Arsenio back on the air. They could move the show to another channel, and have the aforementioned rappers invest in the production fees. Hell, Ice Cube can do that alone or just get his production company to do the work. It would be good for both parties involved. If Arsenio does get "old" or "outdated" then they could pass the show to someone younger like Leno or Carson did.

why does hip hop have to do it? why not ask oprah, denzel, and eddie murphy to do it? oprah has O.W.N. so why not ask her? we have to stop putting everything on hip hop niggas.

Now you know damn good and well nigguhs don't think about the big picture. Of course it makes sense to help one person instead of helping hundreds or thousands of people over time. Of course it makes sense to save one show instead of building a foundation where you could provide a home/resource for that show and many other African American shows/businesses/investments. #sarcasm. And I say that as a someone who grew up on the original Arsenio show and watched it faithfully. I hate it had to be him, but blacks have to think bigger and start building their own infrastructure so that they can employ and take care of self instead of always relying on other races to do so for us.

Couldn't Arsenio just go on youtube or hulu plus or some shit like that.

You don't get it. Arsenio represents Hip Hop. Back in the 80s and early 90s he would have a rapper on his show two or three nights a week. And they'd sit on the couch. That might not mean anything to your generation, but I grew up living and breathing Hip Hop 20 years before you were born and I'm telling you, Arsenio was a saviour for our generation. Anybody that was born between 1970 and 1980 knows what I'm saying.

And why should the media be controlled by outsiders? It doesn't even make any sense.

It can't be that expensive or difficult to run a media conglomorate. All you need is a radio station and tv station in every major market. If you have guys who are worth 100s of millions of dollars coordinating it then it shouldn't be a problem.
