EVERYBODY was doing auto tune at that time kayne t-pain wayne diddy jim jones had the song with ron brownz that shit went all the way down to niggas like yung berg and shit....trust it was WAAAAAY worse b4 DOA came out

Just for the record, the machine they used in the 80s was called a vocoder. The difference between a vocoder and autotune is that a vocoder just alters the way your voice sounds but it doesn't put it in key. So if you can't sing a vocoder can't help you.

It wasn't about autotune as much as it was about everybody being in the same lane at the time was fuckin up all the music. When he made DOA everybody was usin it with impunity. Kanye did a whole fuckin album with it, the widespread use was horrible, still is. If your name ain't Roger Troutman, or T-Pain. I think you should leave it alone for the most part. That's a lane that Roger stapled his career with, then T-Pain did the same. That don't mean you can their strength was in their songwriting/hook writing abilities and the auto tune was something that made them stick out more. T-pain would have been successful without auto tune, so was Roger, these other niggas are using it as a talent and that makes it wack.

respect to frampton & stevie but roger was the best to touch the box..

this shit made me laugh for some reason

Nas said Hip Hop was dead. Yet the genre lives on. And plenty of dope material was released around the time of that album's release. And all the old school rappers Nas was lamenting nobody gives recognition to? Well, he's yet to record with any of them since that album was released. Also, gimmicks by wackass rappers continued after his albums' release continued. It changed nothing.

My point? Rappers say shit all the time. Not one of them is above the music or able to exert enough influence to completely stop anyone from putting out music however they like.

If you were expecting a single song to completely destroy the use of auto-tune all across hip hop, then i don't know what to say about your perception of the power of one person or one song, but i'd ask you to seriously think about how you think about music and the world in general. What D.O.A. did though, was kill off a couple replaceable actors in the game and cause some rappers to think twice before using auto-tune as liberally as they were for that brief period of time. Which is about all one should've ever expected at most from a single song.
