im saying that he made it up with no pen, and how are u gonna say its bullshit? were u there with him? i dont get how u guys can perpetuate all this hate with NO PROOF, u say he didnt freestyle it, but ive never seen him have a notebook in the booth so either he has the greatest memory ever or its a fuggin freestyle. yall just love to discredit rappers u dont like

^^^ That, its not like its impossible, Ive been doin it since 03 and you can ask Coo Coo Cal for industry references, he wuz like man you do all yo songs like dat?...lol...I wuz like nah only like 95% percent of em. When u on da block you dont have no pen n paper...thats how it is man, niggas really are haters. Y dont no one discredit Biggie...He even said he did it and also said Jigga did the same thing.

If you think the Grammy Family freestyle was off the top of his head, then i got an island to sell you.

Niggas can't freestyle superintricate rhyme schemes with internal rhymes and multis.

IF AZ said he freestyled his shit, would you believe him?

of course you can freestyle with complex rhyme shemes and multis, BUT shit just wouldnt make much sense because no one is able to bring up such crazy metaphors, punchlines and shit on the fly. no one.

so no, the grammy family of course isnt a freestyle off the top of the head but it's actually true, jay doesn't write his shit down, he just memorizes that shit while hes bringin up the line. biggie did the same, wayne kinda does it (if he writes). but its not freestyling, jay never said he freestyles tracks.

and smh at you non believers, come on, that shit isn't even hard to do. it's like learning for a vocabulary test 15mins before it starts, you just keep that shit in your head, whats the big deal? for some people its easy, some need pen and paper. I mean why should you write something down if you're able to keep it in your head?

Using the term "freestyle" kinda fucked up this thread. He didn't formulate his verses and songs in the booth but they were "written" in his head. The were written, just not written down.

it's not exactly freestyling but he dosen't write down the verses and creates it in his head.He says it's the best way for him to flow over tracks so well.Jay and Biggie are the best to do it without a pen

why should he close the thread he's saying he deserves credit for the method in which he creates verses.

because it's pointless to discuss that shit for like 100 pages. I mean it's cool if you can do it without touching a pen and it adds up to the myths surrounding jay-z. BUT at the end it doesn't matter if it took you 20 minutes or 3 days to write a song, the end result is what counts.

it's just the method which fits best for jay. he even said that he wanted to sit down and actually write his verses on paper for kingdom come but it didn't work like he wanted it to work.

on the opposite, eminem said he sometimes memorizes lines without writing em down, but that he's not able to create full verses in his head because he forgets them. is he whack because of this? or is nas whack because he writes shit down? hell no!

my point is that the ability to memorize something the moment you put it together in your head hasn't anything to do with your rapskills or your writing skills. it's just a nice extra feature

no rapper just sits down, writes some lines on paper and tries to make the words flow after the verse is done. not working. you have an idea and you try to find the right words, rythm, ... for it ("freestyling"). when you got it, you write it down on paper (OR you already memorized it), and then on to the next one. it's called stepwriting.

like synthesis said he'd been writing most of his life before he was a rapper, just a lot of practice. i dont get why its so hard for u to believe.

thats all it is @ the end of the day ... his job is to rap ... if he cant do that by now especially a 16 bar ... he should be able to easily come up with something in his head or jot something down real quick ... hes been doing it way to long and consistently to not too ...

its like the job i do .... i been on this shit for 10+ years fuck freestyling .... i can do this shit in my sleep ..... im an network engineer .... but it took them years of repetiveness to get me to this point LOL ;)

but @ the very end of the day ... lets hear it from the source .... according to Jayz its a freestyle ... but an Organized freestyle ..... ;)

shit there is no link for it on youtube ... but jayz said it himself on the rhyme & reason movie .... i actually have it on VHS if i can find it i'll upload it ...

yeah. and what's an "organized freestyle" other than a written verse? lol. did you ever write something in your life?

im guessing hes sort of like eminem ... but in jay case since he doesnt actually write anymore ... he probably is memorizing alot of good lines and just uses them @ will and put others together to create a story etc ....... its def not impossible ... he has more than enuff time to build on the memorization skills .........

and he mostly pulls from his real life .... so as long as he can remember his past situations that he would like to transform into rhyme form ... all hes gotta due is just draw from that situaton and start building the rhyme for it ..........

i can freestyle 16 bars with a few mess ups and i dont even rap like that ... if i was doing this full time and focusing on it to the point that im trying to be a great rapper/lyricist ... freestyling 16bars wouldnt be shit ... but 48 bars i might have some trouble LOL ;) .... but if we are in a production studio that aint nothing a few punch ins couldnt fix ........

i personally know artist that take hours to make thier music cause they dont write ... they freestyle line for line ... its alot of ways u can get the job done .....

^if u think jayz never sat with a pen and paper and wrote down rd or bp etc... then u sir need to be placed in a mental institution

jay writes his his verses and memorizes them...whats so hard to understand?

if i wrote a verse on monday over a kanye instrumental, memorized it, then went to just blaze and said i need a beat for a song i wrote, blaze throws me a beat, i pick one and rap my verse i wrote on monday over it.....i may need to tweek parts here and there, but its still a pre written verse and not a freestyle

jay is big on song structure, which takes planning....freestyles are random bursts of thought, which have no relationship, i think jay wud be insulted if u said bp was a bunch of freestyles put together to form a song......

honestly i dont care if he writes or actually memorizes the rhyme ... ALL im really saying is its not impossible by any means to truelly structure a rhyme in your head if this is what you do 24/7 ... it actually comes second hand once you become an professional artist ... especially in rap where lyrics arent really that important ... and alot of rappers today write 16 bars full of 1 liners ... theres no consistency thru out the verses ...

even ja rule said he does the same after watching jay do his thing for years ... lil wayne used to do the same shit .... and big was the first to ever be heard to do shit like that .... oh and on the low its what Ghostface has done his entire career its actually one of his recipes to his style ........

its not that far fetch .... wether its true or not ....... i dont care ... im just saying its not far fetch and very MUCH POSSIBLE ....

;)

nah he isn't writing it down. there are plenty of people who confirmed this (rick rubin for example), plus numerous videos where you see him mumbling to the beat putting his verse together. it's not like he does that in 5mins like those videos make you believe, maybe he has 3 fucking hours, who knows (who cares, btw).

it's possible and if you got the memory for it, it's easy (and good brain train). in fact, I do it all the time my damn self. so it can't be that hard, lol. the point is: it doesn't matter how you do it, but whats coming out in the end.

but of course it's no fucking freestyle. as you said, the song has structure, it's written. written. he writes in his head, not to no paper. what's so hard to understand about that? ;)

(waits for some rant on how i'm european and shouldn't rap period)

man its like the illuminati shit ... cats see something that they cant do and start coming up with shit to discredit others ... man they must use witch craft .... man he got ghost writers ... man he wrote that shit @ home before he came to the studio ...

if allot of yall actually persue the career as a writer you will start to see how possible this really is ............. i def agree with European .....

and i must agree i used to think Europeans should stop rapping ......... but in recent time ive heard some actuall dope lyricist .... so do you mane !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! let em hate in the process lol ;)
