cosign this thread, it's not what you believe in that defines you, it's how you treat people (good or bad) and the legacy you leave behind. People are worrying about a fantasy place call heaven or hell, when how you live everyday defines those places.

Yeah boi, lying in the ground (not raking leaves) sounds sooo good. Anyway, I thought an atheist was a person that doesn't believe their is a god. If she believes in Christ how is she an atheist?

She said she believes in the example of a perfect human being, in that if you live life for other people, you will be happy. And if you live life for yourself, you will be unhappy. And she used Christ as an example of this way of living.

She didn't mention anything about his supposed "divinity."

What I gathered from this...is that, if you're gonna do good for others, and live with the other person in mind, you should do it because it's the right thing to do..and it makes you happy. Doing good deeds for other people SHOULD make you happy, and it's what we should do, irregardless.

Don't do it because it's a way for you to have a happy time in the next world. That's a selfish way of living.

This is pretty much my way of thinking. It's also one of the many problems I have with Christianity or rather the religion as it is practice. Preachers are always talking about doing this or that so you can receive your blessings. It's never that you should do those things just because they are the right thing to do.

On the flipside, whether you believe he was divine or not, most people would probably agree that the world would be a lot better if everyone adopted Jesus' teachings. This shouldn't be confused with the Christians act though. By and large the behavior most Christians show are pretty much contradictory to what Jesus taught. He pretty much said the most important commandment was to love your neighbor as you love yourself. How many Christians actually do that.

Also, if she referred to Jesus as Christ, then she is automatically acknowledging his divnity as that is what the title Christ means.

I don't think people actually understand how selfish this train of thought is. If you're doing something good for another person because it's a way for you to have a happy time in the next world, you're still essentially only living for yourself and what benefits you. And you're miserable. And I tend to believe that bible-thumping, church-going, over-zealous religious idiots are those who are most miserable.

Living with the other fellow in mind, you have to be happy. Forget about what "God" wants you to do for a minute. Do it because it's what you should do. God isn't needed for something that is completely self-evident. If you see someone who needs your help, help him because it's what you should do, regardless of how it makes you look in God's eyes.
