If you ask any criminal that's in or been to prison if they knew they would go to prison before they committed the crime they got caught committing, they would say yes.

That means they wanted to go to prison at some point.

If they are in and out of prison it's because they don't mind prison. They are cool with it.

That's why it's called "taking penitentiary chances"! You are taking a chance to go to the pen.
