17, i chose smoking tree over living at home. My mother wasn't having me be a smoker so I left. She was really on some shit though like trying to get me arrested and taking my battery out my car. All this while I still had A&Bs in school, craziness.

27 and the only reason I moved out then is I met my wife then girlfriend/fiance and we bought a house.

I loved it to be honest I stacked my cash and came and went as I pleased, my parents only had one rule and that was no sex in their house; I didn't mind getting hotel rooms and going to their houses anyway when I wanted sex I actually preferred it.

It's kinda frowned upon in the Black culture due to a group think mentality in the societal culture but look at the Asians, Hispanics, Native Americans, etc. all of them stay at home generally until they are married it ain't nothing to have 4-5 adults under one roof they stack their money, split the bills, and everybody wins.

Most people 18-25 with no degree aren't making no real money like that unless they're a hell of a entrepreneur, college grad, or work an oil field job or something along those lines. Other than that people in that age range aren't making 80K or more generally.

Lol and this nigga had the nerve to shit on Du

I couldn't live like that this but ehhh. I assume to each there own.

Two entirely different situations.

I was single living at home with no kids and no wife living up in my mama house unlike Du.

I was also a college graduate with a bachelor's and master's degree too with a fiance that lived three hours away and was about to graduate from law school.

If moving out is for you cool, but I wasn't about to go lease some ish that was not mine just to say I had my own place when my mother and father had just built a nearly 5,000 sq ft house.

Here 5 years later my wife and I own houses we rent out to people.

Having your own crib doesn't make you any more or less of an adult than the next person, it's how you take care of business, your responsibility, and how you better yourself.

If you needed your space or you and your folks didn't get along that's one thing but to leave just to be leaving is more silly from a fiscal and logistical perspective unless you moving out makes your life significantly better which I highly doubt. @ChiCity

I was 19, and not ready. Roomed with my bestie who was even less ready. Partied too much, and things eventually fell apart.

Moved back home and then moved out again at 22. No roommate, and I was better prepared.

Unless your home situation is just unbearable, I would advise young adults to hold off until they're prepared. Stack some money, get the things you need to make a home.

And at that age, neither did I..lol. Thought I had it all figured out with my lil Office Depot job. The reality of adult life hit me like a ton of bricks.

exactly......it all sounds nice but most of us were fucking idiots......and thats ok lol.....you're supposed to go thru that

I went thru a lil time when I was mad at my folks for not showing me shit, preparing me a little better, or even having their shit together better so we could have had the luxury of staying home and "saving".....but fuck it, I think we all just make the path as we go, no matter the circumstances

Pretty much my story, and my pop had the same rule. Pretty much do what you want, come as you please, I won't make you pay any bills, but no sex in my house. When my girl would visit, I'd give her my room and I'd sleep on the couch or brothers room.

I first left at 18. Left MS to go to school in NC. Came back at 23, and stayed with my folks until 25. My girl graduated, and we both found jobs in ATL.

18

I Did one year at college in SUNY Farmingdale living on campus then went to the Navy for 5 years. I was stationed in Norfolk Virginia and had my own crib. After i was done with Navy i stayed in VA for a little then sold my spot. I went back to Brooklyn and bought a brownstone in full when the market was cheap before gentrification.

I totally agree, but my situation was unbearable so that's why I left. But if you are fortunate enough to have a supportive family just stay home until you get a good job.

What town is this? Btw I have lived in the country too so I know how you feel.

Place called Hinesville in SE Georgia.

Can't be anymore country than Lake Waccamaw, NC there wasn't shit to do, absolute middle of nowhere.

The reality of adult life hit me like a ton of bricks too, but what sucked for me what that my mom put a man over me and I realized blood is not thicker than water at all.

That's how I felt. Not to mention her bf threatened me with his gun.

For those of you that moved out at 17, 18, 19.... are we talking about college? Where the hell did yall go?

The four years I spent in Missouri in undergrad, aside, I came home and didn't move out until 24... just a few months shy of my 25th birthday just to be able to say I own everything I have. Renting actually scares me. The word itself makes me cringe.
