how much does charisma play a part in a rappers likability?

I'm sure it is a significant factor. I don't think the charisma factor for rappers is any different from people in general.

Also, through the use of social media and other outlets "artists" have more ways of showing their personality and making an impression if they truly have charisma. Some people like to focus not only on the music, but the way the artist handles general socializing and living and the charisma may shine through if you just watch them.

IMO, many artists don't actually have charisma, but the fact that people have seen them on the TV screen creates the "intrigue factor" when people actually see them IRL.

what makes them less charismatic than jay, nas or common?

Red and Busta lack the presence or the aura of a Jay or a Nas. Busta and Redman are more "in your face" stylistically, but neither of them garner attention simply because of their presence on a song. When Busta and Redman aren't as animated, the magic is gone. Jay Z and Nas can still hold an audience no matter how monotone or conversational the flow and delivery may be. People are still drawn to the fact that it's Jay and Nas. That's why both artists have legions of extreme fans that will defend them no matter what and legions of extreme haters who will denounce them even though they'll check every new song and album just to do so.

Common is charismatic to a degree, but not to the extent of Jay Z or even Nas.
