Earlier this year, Florida's Republican governor Rick Scott turned down more than $2 billion in federal dollars approved for a high-speed line between Tampa and Orlando. Scott was concerned about low ridership and potential cost overruns spilling over to state taxpayers, despite the fact that his state suffers from 12 percent unemployment and the money would have brought thousands of new jobs. State legislators of both parties begged the Department of Transportation to continue funding the project, but without the governor's approval, its fate was sealed. The US government is notorious for overruns and most projects are never under budget....wonders where all those trains are made....can you say China.? BTW other states that took monies from the government didn't give any preference to minority contractors when they took bidding for the various projects.
