How is "VOL 2: HARD KNOCK LIFE" nothing short of a Near Classic Album???

nah...its honestly its less than a near classic. of all his albums...its prolly right n the middle. literally. it came out at the right time tho, but its average n terms of his quality.

that shit was ok
vol. 1>>>>>>>vol. 2

I do think Vol 1 gets some unjust hate also. But I'd still put Vol 2 slightly above it. It's funny that people throw rocks at Jay's 1st 3 albums. Some say "RD" isn't a Classic, hate on Vol 1 cause of the "Sunshine" song and video and "I know what girls like" song. And feel Vol 2 was way to commercial. But all 3 are clearly quality albums.

My favorite Jay album, but only cuz of the memories behind it. 98 was the shit for me. In hindsight, it's a slept on Jay album, and might be a near classic, but not his best.

Puff ruined Vol 1 with his shiny suit fuckery. That's when ppl felt that Jay sold out, and was almost Vanilla Ice status. Vol 2 kinda brought him back to the streets with Hard Knock Life and Money Cash Hoes (the remix was crazy)

vol. 1 can't be ruined cuz of 2 songs when there were songs like you must love me, imaginary player, where i'm from, rap game/crack game, who you wit II on it

Actually some of the best beats on Vol 1 were throwaway Biggie and Ma$e tracks. The only fuckery Puff did was that "I know what Girls Like" with Lil Kim song, that was some bad boy era shit right there, lol. "Sunshine" sampled a Classic song but Babyface on the hook and the techno color video ruined the song. It's funny you say HKL brought him back to the streets when the fact is most people felt he went commercial with that album. It did sell 5 Million. But Vol 1 only had a few commerical songs. What people don't get was Jay was just following the formula. Some Commercial songs mixed with some street songs. He has used this formula on ever single album and will continue to use it until he stop making music. That was the formula he saw work with Big so he won't stop using it.

The only real commercial sounding songs on Vol 2 were Can I Get A and (maybe) Hard Knock Life, which sold the album cuz of the Annie sample. Even the Timbo joints sounded grimey. Vol 1 had Sunshine, I Know What Girls Like, that Sauce Money joint, and the Blackstreet joint.

I wouldn't go quite so far as to say 'near classic', but I'm not mad at somebody saying that. It's a DAMN GOOD album. Also, Jay's highest selling for what it's worth.
