I've always said Blacks have it a lot better in America than anywhere else in the world. Spending a good bit of time overseas I would never want to live anywhere else but here.

That first video the description of ganguro is wrong btw.
It doesn't mean black faced girl, it means darkened or blackened face, and it has nothing to do with black people.

It's really to Japan what the Emo/Screamo scene is to America. Ganguro girls usually have dark tans and have bright hair colors, like yellow, white, bright pink. etc...

I'm not making excuses for these videos because they are horrible...but i do find ironic you generalize the rest of the world, just as the rest of the world apparently generalizes black people.

that first video is really really bad though. smh.

Which is a problem because the other countries that treat us like shit mostly do so because they get their image of us from the American media and Hollywood. America does not want to lose their biggest money making industry, the exploitation of black people, by having us move out of their country and live somewhere else, so it's highly important for them to make every other nation on the planet hate us as well, so that it would make America seem like paradise for us to stay living in. Peep the game, it's easy if you're willing to "read" the manual before playing.

I don't care what garungo means... what I was paying attention to was how they were portraying what they believe to be Africans, and they used American media's portrayal of us to emulate and put on their television which will reach their masses.

I honestly don't think the first video was made by Japanese people. Obviously the actresses in it were but there is so much wrong in the description of what it is it can't be right.

It say's it the Ganguro lifestyle, which aside from darkened skin nothing else in it is legit. No bright hair, no platform shoes, no brightly colored short skirts. It's just fake all the way around.

Well obviously if something that is such a big fashion statement in Japan is portrayed completely wrong in a "Japanese Video" I will call it out because it loses all authenticity. The shit was likely made in America by ignorant girls who subtitled it and have no idea of their culture back home.

I've seen niggas make the same type videos about rednecks and shit too, it goes both ways.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not speaking about the PEOPLE of other countries, I'm speaking about the MEDIA of other countries who seem to be in league with portraying us a certain way. I mean if it was in their nature to intently hate black people and portray us a certain way, then I'm sure they would come up with their own unique separate version of us, but they didn't, they took what they see from Hollywood and implemented it into their own media... this in turn gives the normal everyday people of their society the wrong impression and images of blacks and then they in turn treat us accordingly to how they think we ARE.

I'm not generalizing, I'm just trying to point out the dangers of allowing ourselves to be ignorant and playing the white man's evil games...

In all honestly, in regards to black AMERICANS, I would say foreign blacks are your harshest critiques...I've came in contact with some African dudes that were just pissed off because my friends were breathing American air, in my head I was thinking "but you are here too" but in reality I was walking away before slave talk came up and I got beheaded

OH AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON YOU WHITE DEVIL - what I imagined him saying

Lol, African dudes don't hate you. They hate the ignorant niggas in America.

But niggas don't have the power to force feed that nonsense to the masses... big difference.

The Chinese culture values pale skin and considers anything darker than that ugly. There are exceptions, but I hear it makes things difficult for black people.

And, yes, Japanese can also be racist as anything. Same with Koreans.

That's because they know the WORLD will see THEM however they see US in America, because WE are the ones on TV. This is the divide and conquer tactic thrown into this game.

No surprise here, niggas always want to play friendly with everyone else when in reality none of these people care for us.

it's just a poor translation by someone on the internet i think.

edit...actually the translation is pretty accurate. I'm not fluent in japanese but I know enough to tell the translations are accurate. They do refer to ganguro a few times in the dialogue.

Good thread, but people won't understand this shit. I remember a long time ago there was a thread about some guy visiting this athletic shoe store somewhere in Korea, and the store that had the N word in the name. Everybody in the thread was talking about how they would have slapped the Korean and how racist Koreans are. They completely missed the point the TC was trying to make which was that in places where there aren't a lot of blacks, people see media portrayals and tend to attach that to blacks as truth. In this case, the store owner actually thought the N word was just a term for black people and he based that on the rap music that his kids listened to.

Japan obviously isn't perfect. In japan, i've seen signs that say no foreigners allowed in this establishment. However, I haven't seen any that single out black people. The people I know and visit in Japan love and respect african american culture. But, I will admit that most of what they know about it is from movies and music. They don't teach african american history in schools, and in all honesty why should they? We don't don't japanese history in america. I've seen black people in japan in Harajuku intimidating japanese women and disrespecting the culture. However, I've also seen idiot white people in Roppongi walking around drunk and disorderly through out the streets screaming at people, and also disrespecting the culture. I won't even go into the US soldiers, both black and white. There are many black people in Japan that are well respected and actually creating a lot of positive attention...one in particular is an african american Enka (old japanese classic "blues" music) named Jero that just won the new artist of the year in that genre...that is almost unheard of and would never have been expected in years.

here is a video from jero...

Yeah, one thing people don't understand is that Japan is one of the most ethnically homogenous societies on Earth. In fact, the country existed as a completely isolated society for more than 100 years until the U.S. basically bullied them into opening themselves up for trade. So it should stand to reason that some of them aren't always the most receptive to outsiders.

Edit: How that dude Jero wind up doing that music? He looks so out of place, but he does it perfectly. lol

Small correction: the Dutch were trading with the Japanese during the entire extent of the period of isolation. They were mainly left to the artificial trading post Dejima in Nagasaki, though.

his grandmother is japanese, and his mother is half black and half japanese. He is from PA...they love him in Japan.

It's true though...he does look out of place. lol...i think that is part of his appeal.

Now this doesn't make it right, but what form of comedy doesn't make fun of other cultures? There are japanese that make fun of japanese, whites, and blacks in their comedy routine. There are whites and blacks in america that do that same thing towards asians and their own race. I guess it's part of the reason why I don't watch those type of comedies...the shit is just too ignorant. White people this, black people that, asians this, latinos that. blah blah blah.
