I've seen many people saying he is a gimmick but I've seen no one mentioning Joey Badass father who influenced him in liking 90's rap music. Just an observation

Slept on post..read the same thing in an article. It's not a "gimmick". Some of ya'll misunderstanding of a gimmick really is.

@ the end of the day it is a gimmick ... its what seperates him from all the other mceez out there ... its one of his strongest points its what got him his buzz ..... a young dude with a 90z style .....

I think he's like how our generation was influenced by the 70's and early 80's

He's just a good listener and he says his mom played those 90's records, plus as much as NY has changed, they still give reminders of the past on radio everyday by playing golden era music all the time.

Also what we call golden era hip hop from the east coast is simply the sound of NY and on the west and south it was the sound of their regions

NY in dark allies still feels like the sound of 90's hip hop

There is a whole segment of younger fans who have embraced the golden era

He's gonna have to get his "It Was Written" moment. He has to update his beats a tad but not drastically. Looking back at it, Steve Stoute was right. As great as illmatic was, Nas didn't become a star until It Was Written. He said Nas would be a great lyricist who nobody outside of New York to Philly would care about like Kool G. Rap. That might be a bit extreme. However most kids maybe 25 & under couldn't tell you a single song of G. Rap. Who in most peoples book is Top 10 all time.

Joey Badass is borderline overrated IMO. His music is outdated. Not saying he cant rap but his sound is boring. Like one poster said, whats it gonna be like when inevitably he's gonna have to modernize his music. He might end up one of these niggas that came and went once the nostalgia wears off.
