How does IC feel about Joey Bada$$'s 90s Obsession?

@DNB1 1999 and the PEEP tape. And if you want to here older stuff the Sec$ Tape

But def 1999

Personally I like joey badass but his sound can get dreary boring since he isn't EXPANDING. Or modernizing or updating the sound, he's just copying it. There are other rappers his age like chance the rapper, asap mob, even french montanaetc that take the 90s and make it modern

His best songs tend to be the ones that aren't produced by his camp

maybe his sound aint "the 90s sound", maybe his sound is New Yorks sound and people label the shit as a 90s sound because des the last time it was popular like that, damn yall don lost the knowledge of yall selves like that

we dont call krit a 90s rapper, ny be killin dey self

He tries too hard imo.

There is a difference in using the 90's as a template then updating it to sound modern.

Instead of just trying to recreate 93,94 and 95 all over.

Joey Badass is that kid on youtube that posts "I'm 17 years old but I love Big Daddy Kane" for likes...

Lil B had that lil nigga about to cry over Twitter, no 90s head would allow that shit

I've seen many people saying he is a gimmick but I've seen no one mentioning Joey Badass father who influenced him in liking 90's rap music. Just an observation

Somebody pull up the video where 9th wonder talking to krit about how these new cats inspired and sound so much like the old school cats cause that's all they heard growing up. I think his theory rings true here also

Makes good music so I don't care. Wouldn't even say he has an obsession. He likes that sound, lotta folk do. I'm glad he's not another 808 rapper

Funny Joey Badass story . I use to mess with a chick from NY and we still talk from time to time. And she is like best friends with his moms and she be telling me how she be fucking random dudes on trips to Essence Music festival , Cancun and ATLx .

It's his niche, same shit for Action Bronson, but i don't see either of them making that far making retro music. It's like that retro music that the Cool Kids and them other niggas was making, it's cool but you don't make progress going backwards imo.

you'd think as much as IC loves talkin bout 90s rap and praying for it to come back, this nigga would get mad love

goes to show you niggas come on here just to spew hate

name people who dont love Joey Badass or are you making up this imaginary hate?

He shouldn't have to bring it back he should be pushing the "new york sound" forward.

I like Joey but replicating won't get you anywhere. Once the nostalgia settles niggas will be looking for him to expand his sound or they'll move on.

That's the thing I always wanted to ask. Is Joey actually good or does he get so much praise because he sounds like something niggas have fond memories of?

We won't really know until he pushes his sound.

i got no problems with a new rapper tryna re create the 90's sound and have a 90's style because thats when the best hip hop was made just like alot of people on here say. imo i wish more new rappers would use a 90's style coz thats the kind of hip hop that i like 2 hear and so would alot of others coz tbh i just cant get in2 alot of the new sound wher every rapper these days sounds like drake. alot of critics give game alot of hate for his namedropping but thats another thing i got no problems with because he creates a 90's kinda feel in his songs by namedropping all these rappers from that era. did d'angelo get hated on for re creating a 70's sound in his albums?

his sound is dated. even some of the rappers from the 90's have adapted modern times. its time for him to let it go or he wont last in the game
