So what say you? I know everyone knows at least one person.

I just had a bad flashback about how I was "locked in" a two hour conversation with someone, actually an elderly friend of mine. To make a long story short, I had gotten back from a night out and initially had no problem talking a bit with her, but then it went on and on and on and on. She was a sweet old lady, and I'm usually patient/amiable when it comes to nice people, so I bit the bullet and endured a mostly one-sided conversation that lasted about two hours.

But how does one not pick up on the social queues and norms, unless one is autistic or something? Especially when the person you're talking to death is looking at you crazy, how do you not notice that something's not right?

I'm starting to avoid people like this. Honestly, I'm just not that dude that will typically tell you to shut the fuck up if you've been talking at me for 15+ minutes. Or to lie and say that I have to go and take a piss during mid-conversation. But I can let people know straight up or keep my earphones on deck if I have to do so.

If anything, please just consider this a public service announcement: if you are or know someone who does this, please let me know, and get them some help. People on phones or in planes, hospital beds, offices, etc., suffer every day from the effects of this debilitating disease with little-to-no escape. As a former victim myself, I can say it's one of the worst forms of torture. Thank you for your time.

Exactly. My experience is most people who talk alot also don't care to listen. For me it's gotta be a two way conversation or I'll tell the person "listen to me. Shut up for a second." After that if they keep interrupting, I'll leave. (can't do that all the time but sometimes it works)

My girl will invite me over to watch a ball game and proceed to talk non-stop about shit that has nothing to do with the game. I like to hear the commentators, catch the narratives and comments, etc. She drowns all that shit out.

Staring at the screen in a semi-unresponsive fashion gets her to chill out a bit, but it's TEDIOUS getting there. That lack of self awareness gets frustrating then a mufucka though.

I used to have a girl I would kick it with who would tell the "whole story" starting from when she woke up. I would just leave the phone or mute her and wait. I give strangers the "well you take it easy" or "it was good talking to ya" and they get the hint
