There arent many Asians period........but I would say the majority of youtube rappers are Asian

Mainly because the ones who genuinely love hip hop either stay in their countries music industry(e.g. Japan, South Korea, China) or stay underground in a region here(e.g. west coast) and for whatever reason abstain from attempting to go mainstream - probably due to fear of not gaining acceptance and the scrutiny that comes with being a minority in a predominantly black genre.

Theoretically Asians should be easier to accept than white people because they generally relate to the struggle more than a typical white person, but due to the fact that their culture(s) doesn't glamorize hip hop as much as whites nor see it as a feasible way to earn a living, it shrinks the talent pool. Having to battle the stereotype of Asians being "geeky" "asexual" and even more "uncool" than whites, plays a part in it as well.

Really? It seems like if he had the right marketing and promotion he could have blown up. Also, It seems like he'd be able to bring something new to the table as far as content is concerned like the way Eminem was able to bring something new on "White America" or "Sing For The Moment".

Well, part of the stereotype against Far East Asians is that they are generally meek people who aren't really aggressive in their personalities by nature. That kinda goes against the idea of what a rapper is supposed to be.

Rappers in general are viewed more positively and more marketable when they are more aggressive. Hence the reason we seek some kind of struggle and hard upbringing in their past. It's why 50 Cent blew up, why the general population has an adoration for 2Pac and Biggie, and why Eminem was accepted as more than just a white guy rapping.

That's not to say that some Far East Asians don't have hard upbringings or that they can't be aggressive or don't have gangs with whom they associate, but the stereotype holds against them in terms of marketability.

If the rise of soft rappers like Macklemore shifts the interest of labels to non-aggressive rappers, then we might see an Asian rapper in the future. But as yet, it's unlikely, i think, we'll see one soon.

There are so many Asian MCs, the only problem is that you wouldn't understand what they are saying, but they pay homage to the culture more than any other groups. I did a report about the growth and development of Asian Hip Hop, specifically focusing on Korean Hip Hop and Soul and the comparison between their Hip Hop culture and ours. Theirs is more grassroots than ours. Some of the artists are very talented. If you ever have the time, find a video where there are English subtitles. Its fascinating how their culture went through similar trends and rapping styles as the artform evolved, just like ours.
