Drake been said Nas is one of his fav rappers of alltime, and they just made a track together

......

Word...

...who Ski Beatz sample for Jay-Z's Dead Presidents? Nas! in fact, Jay wanted Nas to come recite the hook personally. Also, you can see how similar the cadence in the verses are in The World Is Yours and Dead Presidents I if you compare the two.

Smh @ niggas that primarily judge an artist's worth on album sales and YouTube views.

I mean the majority of us on this site thinks he's the GOAT, word to the IC poll created awhile back or at least top 10. Most of us think he represents Hip Hop to the fullest right? I know he's still going Gold but he struggles with that, you would think with all of his die hard fans on top of gaining at least a few fans with the 10 albums he's dropped he'd be a shoe in platinum artist everytime. What the fuck is going on?

I don't think you are stupid because you have a picture of a Vikings QB in a Redskins uniform in your signature.

.....I think you are stupid because you typed something stupid like "he struggles to go Gold".

Nas last album "Nigger" went Gold in less than 90 days

It was released on July 15th and certified Gold by the RIAA on Septmember 11th.......that's not a "struggle" unless you are stupid.

Pop music goes platinum and your Emenim goes 10X platinum so why would an emcee who represents HipHop culture and Black culture have cross-over success selling uncut, unfiltered, music to the masses?

I remember copping in Untitled in Brooklyn in the summer of C3, loved the album since.

My biggest fan........found something wrong with my post. I apologize brotha If I didnt come 100% correct. I dont pay attention to how fast album sales go, I just figured it took him awhile cause thats usually where it stalls out at.

Eminem's name stays in your fingertips smh

Everybody copped a copy or the bootleg.

Hip hop is dead was released on December 16th and certified Gold on March 12th....another 90 days so T/S is exaggerating to be dramatic and he should know better because he is a moderator.

Many rappers have recently fell off the platinum wagon, Wayne, Snoop, T.I, Jeezy and Ludacris only went Gold with their last albums despite having Catalogs filled with platinum plaques.

Platinum is dead...I said it once and I will say it again: in the calendar year of 2010 only Drake and Emenim went platinum....since then Kanye has gone platinum along with Nicki Minaj but that's about it.

It's 2011 and Lupe, Wiz, Big Sean, Em & Royce, Snoop and every other rapper that has released an album this year is not platinum and most likely won't be platinum this year....it is what it is.

I have good reason to believe it's because of the emergence of Fraud Rap & Euro-Rap.

All of the major labels are making a big push to spread these new watered down rap sub-genres (see: Ricc False, Lil Wayne, Drake, Euromath, Euro-Jay, etc.), because they want to force real raw blacc revolutionary conscious thug music out of the game, since it's so hard to genuinely reproduce.

I think he had his time but could never distinguish himself as number one by mainstream media!

funny. i dont see any platinum on Rick Ross and hes supposed to be hot. its like 400 to 600 K.

Nas is gonna fall in that same level of numbers run and it will be true fans and not some MTV teen crush for this summer, they move on to something new the next year you cant rely on that!

NAS is a legend not a flash in the pan since his 1994 debut dude is a made man!

he doesn't make music to specifically appeal to a certain demograph, he just makes his music for the love of it.

I wish his love for making music included a better beat selection. Seems like he only has a love for great lyrics. It disappoints me more than anything when a name/talent as big as Nas goes around and grabs throwaway beats when I'm sure there's top notch beats available at his fingertips.

As far as going platinum, it's a very exclusive club nowadays and that's all there is to it. A Nas/Kanye album could make it happen though. Scatter a Large Pro/Pete Rock/Premo beat on the album.

how long did it take Illmatic to go platinum, and thats his most notable work. Plus he doesnt appeal to the masses.

that sound like some made up shit.

come to Dallas and see how many Nas fans there are

i know about early rap

the 80s was bullshit

niggas started to advance in the 90s and lyrics were at the best from like 98 til now

Illmatic was simple as hell

was Illmatic more lyrical than the Blueprint or Reasonable Doubt?

What about Tha Carter or Carter 2?

and just cuz im 21 now doesnt mean i cant judge Illmatic properly.

The shit is on my computer and i listen from time to time.

but shit is mediocre

Thank Me Later and all Kanye albums shit on Illmatic

lol he said come to Dallas like that mean something, don't yall niggas still sport boxes and shit? jus sayin *ye shrug* Like the city of Dallas got clout I respect D.O.C. and badu smh

Cause Nas doesn't have much mainstream appeal anymore. The type of rap Nas was doing 10 years ago was mainstream... but its 10 years later and Nas hasn't evolved that much as an artist to keep up with the mainstream listener's ear. He hasn't kept up with the times like Jay-Z for example - who's still going Platinum, #1, and doing his numbers.

And I don't care what anyone says - casual rap fans don't buy shit. They account for very little of album/digital sales, especially currently. To put things in perspective: There's been Urban radio #1s that haven't even touched the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, but I dare someone to find me the last Pop radio #1 that didn't make the Hot 100 Top 10.

I don't think diehard fans make any artist go Platinum w/ the exception of Eminem and that because of... well you know

For instance, Diehard Jigga fans didn't make BPIII go platinum

Casual rap fans that like ESOM and RTT made the album sell

Diehard Weezy fans didn't make CIII platinum

Casual rap fans who heard ABOUT his mixtapes leading up to the album drop made it sell

Hell, Kanye diehard fan base didn't didn't push MDBTF over 1M mark

casual rap fans who read reveiws and had been following his antics brought the album in hopes of hearing some new still of production or him say something outlandish

The fact is NaS isn't saying/doing anything worth the casual rap fans interest to make him go plat in a reasonable amount of time however like the aforementioned he does have 300-500k diehard fans that will buy his album of the strength of his catalouge

Appeal to the casual fan with gimmicks or controversy or even a catchy song or 2 and boom.......plat

Only in rap are we experiencing this I beleive

and ITgrav, nigga u confused about you sexual orientation so i can't take your veiws of music as anything other then u still trynna decide if u wanna stand or sit when u piss

Die hard fans are all an artist has once the mainstream audience dries up. A lot of die hard fans will cop an album out of obligation, because they've pretty much collected that artist's material.

Kanye's die hard fan base copped MBDTF which is pretty much all he had to rely on because he didn't have the big crossover records to attract new listeners.
