Record sales don't mean shit in 2011, I stop caring about record sales when Soulja Boy went Plat. Fuck mainstream music but I'll always buy a Nas album, I can't wait till his next one drops. Nas is the GOAT.

I dont think he wants to go platinum if it means selling your soul.He has said he goes GOLD he dont need no bitches behind him to go plat.

So I take it you dont think "Hero" was one of them selling your soul tracks? No Im not saying it is but that track can be easily compared to other tracks other would say they made for the radio aka selling your soul to some. Everybody wants to go platinum, im not buying that artist dont want to. Im having a hard time understanding how Nas can be considered the GOAT by the majority of us but has a hard time getting to that Plat level when so many complain about other artist getting shine that doesnt deserve it.

All that, "he doesn't want to go platinum" shit you diehard Nas fans are posting is some bullshit.....

What rapper doesn't want to go platinum, especially someone whose been in the game since the early 90's?....I'm not buying it...

The political and social awareness Nas is what's bodying his album sales....I'm like Irv Gotti, I'd rather hear the ignant Nas >>>> than Nas on his back to the motherland shit....sorry....

and I don't know why this happy Negro, hlf, is worried about why Nas can't moved units....your white homie has been dubbed the King of Hip Hop, tap dance to that, faggit....

I'm sorry sir. I find Drake to be somewhat entertaining, but a Nas he is not. And Nas lame...? Pfffttt... You can't be serious my dude...

When it's all said and done, do you believe those rappers you named will have as successful a career as Nas?

Your opinion is your opinion brutha, but please refrain from trying to disrespect a GOAT emcee who has done more for hip-hop than anybody you've named in your list.
And being caught up in the moment is indicative of a dumbass.

Don't be a dumbass.

Nas has an ok career.
Not like Jay Z career.
but 50 did more than Nas in his lifetime in two albums.
So its possible Drake can do it
plus Ye, Wayne, and Jay have done more than Nas.
Jay has moved more units.
Wayne moved alot when Hip Hop was moving units like that.
and Kanye move units as well as produce.
Nas aint moving units
if he aint bringing in the money what is he doing?

You telling me Hero was commercial?Nas is i another bracket. This platinum shit is becoming the new ILL.

PLATINUM DOES NOT MEAN A GOOD MC OR A HOOD ARTIST IT JUST MEANS YOU GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT.AND NOT WHAT THEY NEED.

After God's Son, Nas has kind of alienated a lot of his core audience without gaining any new fans. By core audience, I mean the fans that like the street anthems, gritty storytelling type tracks as opposed to the political, save Hip Hop type tracks. His last three solo joints focused too much on the latter. His previous albums were able to find that balance.

Polo Da Don beat + Keri Hilson on the hook yea I think it is commercial. I dont think it was cheesy or anything, I actually like the track alot. Yes I know Plat doesnt mean that, not the point of this thread. IMO Nas should be Plat just off name alone like Jay and Em.

Kanye and Jay have done a lot for the genre... 50... eh... not so much so. His sharp, sudden decline in popularity lets me know that he was more a fad than a legitimate contender for GOAT emcee.
Wayne... Possibly.

And, pardon the cliche, Illmatic was a blueprint for hip-hop heads. That's what he's done. None of the artists you named, (Jay and Ye included) have an album that made as big an impact as Illmatic. Sorry bruh. That's all he HAD to do for hip-hop.

The fact that he's done more is only a testament to the dude's skill.

.............I wish he'd go back to that but I can tell this whats been in his heart since that "I Can" record. I respect him for being true to himself, I jus know sum dumbasses are gonna say its another L for him.

really dont think that nas appeals to the mainstream like he once did.....he would really have to dumb his shyt down and make some catchy shyt nowadays to go plat.....i really dont think dude wants to go that route he has multiple plat and gold records so that shyt mite not be so important to him.....idk
