HOW CAN YOU BE GREAT/A LEGEND IF THE MAJORITY OF YOUR HITS ARE SAMPLES/OTHER PEOPLE LYRICS?

You can't.

Edit: Yeah, I should clarify. Sampling is cool, it's been a fundamental portion of Hip-Hop. But there are limits to that, and a nigga who can orchestrate fresh content will always be honored more then the sample king. As for the Ghostwriting shit, Kanye will never be fully honored as top 5 because of this.

He has too many hands in the pot when it comes to all this shit. He has niggas writing his raps, although it has never been really proven how deep this goes (whether its just a hook, a line or two, or full frameworks like what Drake is catching heat for). He has other niggas making beats for him, most certainly.

But with that all said, he can still be honored as an artist who transcends Hip-Hop for his ability to orchestrate music in general. He's an anomaly in the game that still must endure the judgement of history.

If you talking production. Sampling & hiphop goes together like lamb & tunafish.

But kanye aint the goat producer anyways.

As far as ghostwriters was it ever proven or just rumors?

So you made this based on Ye ?

Ye is a legend because of his combined effort behind the mic and behind the boards

Agreed ? Let's close this one out

Thats what Hip Hop is.

When Hip Hop originated the DJ would get two copies of a record and keep the break going while the MCs would rap. When they invented the sampler rap producers would take a few bars of a record and loop it. The first songs with samples came out circa 1985 (I think If I Ruled The World by Kurtis Blow was the first song with a looped drumbeat). From 85-1991 there were no laws regarding sampling. Thats why its called The Golden Age of Hip Hop, or The Golden Era; producers could sample whatever they wanted without having to worry about getting sued.

After the Biz Markie vs Gilbert O'Sullivan case in 1991/92 you have to clear every sample, even if its just a baseline or a drumbeat, or a word from another song.

As far as I'm concerned, you can't be a legend if you're not up front about your work. Kanye has always given credit to the people he has collaborated with, so I see nothing that would diminish his status.

And as far as him and ghostwriting, it's literally impossible to prove, so I don't take that into consideration. I'm only interested in facts.

It's not impossible to prove folks wrote his lyrics theres verses on YouTube of Kendrick and big Sean rapping that kanye used later on songs (atleast it was last yr)

Who da Fucc eats lamb & tuna fish

I think he writes his own lyrics, he has his own styles and the content is always that typical kanye style. It hasn't really changed since day one when he was trying to convince dash that he was also a rapper not just a beat mak...sampler.

All day nigga

The way a great quarterback get credit for the throw when the receiver makes an amazing catch

The chronic is consider lets say a top 25 album (or whatever) but niggas know Dre possibly didnt write 2 words that shit

But Yeezy gives credit always and hes proven he can hold his own on the mic

Sampling is where hip hop came from so there's no issue there.

Ye can't be a goat rapper with ghostwriters, but I do think he writes some too.

He's like Dre except he does write some.

I agree about the ghostwriting thing but as for the samples, look in your favorite albums booklet no matter what album it is, I bet most of it has sampled something

Kanye is up there with Jay when it comes to be overrated, how ironic they both made an album called watch the throne, like they are the best or some shit, that sampling shit is crazy sometimes I discover an old song and be shocked as fuck at the sample, sometimes it's the samples that make the songs as great as they become.

But who has ever said they "ghostwrote" for Ye?Everyone involved has always said I gave him a line, a word, or some input.

All that aside Ye has one of the best discographys in rap. Some of the best rappers can't make that claim.

But Kanye will never be goat status in terms of being an emcee. He's a great producer and has transcended the game. Sampling is a staple of hip hop so I see no problems with it.

Wait... wtf is wrong with hip-hop using samples?

And do lamb and tuna really go together? That sounds terribly wrong.
