I could not think of a pioneering breakdancer or graffiti artist or I would have replaced Flash and Mel with them to round out the 4 foundations of Hip Hop.

i think puff would have to be there..i mean, he is proof positive that hip hop is an empire building document, i didnt wanna fill it with old skoolers, i think if anybody it would be bam...that kind of cements the 4 cornors, puff capitalism, jay imperialism, pac globalism, bam spiritualism...

That's one way of looking at it, but to get to Pac, Jay and Puff one has to skip so many others that could fill the same spaces. Russell Simmons could be imperialism or capitalism, Hammer could be capitalism or globalism,Wu Globalism or spiritualism...etc. The old school kind of has to be on Mount Rushmore cause that'swhat the others built upon.I know the younger cats might be dismissive of it, or may not even be familiar with some of the old school but adding rappers that just walk through the door that other cats opened would be like putting Reagan, Clinton,Bush, or Carter on the real Mount Rushmore. Now maybe Reagan, Clinton,Obama, could go on a new mount Rushmore.

^^i agree...russell crossed my mind, but to me hands down puff is the prototype for hip hop success..i remember when he was doing parties at howard, to the mjb thing to big, and now its CRAZY the level of success he has attained..i have never been a big jay fan, but it dumbfounds me how he is absolutely worshipped by so many, and the boy CAN spit...im a wu stan all day, but i dint know what face to put to rep them..dirty?? rza?? and for some reason, the wu...they are the unsung heros and realistically people wont allow themselves to pay them that homage..pac i said because i never was a pac fan..i was mos def on my east coast bullshit..but as i grow older pacs lyrics really speak to me as a man...i really feel that dude was a poet..and when i found out they closed schools in cuba apon hearing of his death..bam is the streets..that real, late 70s ny bronx/uptown grafitti on trains lane..its definitely open to interpretation tho...
