To be honest, it's a shame we can't have the start date from when we were here initially. I obviously realise this isn't possible, but IC Vets are actually noobs if they've only been here for two years. They don't necessarily represent the board or know the board 100% but I definitely think that perhaps a percentage based on the reaction system would be nice… I think a 70% positive mark-up (GOAT, co-sign, ether Vs. Wack, Feelings, Nosign) would allow for higher rankings (1 or a 2 (platinum, vet) rather than a 4 or a 5 (moving numbers etc.))… for instance, there are some decent posters out there with very little post counts, yet they spit knowledge to the board. Where as a dumb ass can post 10,000 posts, abuse the reaction system and still gain top status (not what we want).

I'm aware this would not be a simple algorithm though.

I wouldn't lose sleep over how we eventually decide as it's just a name next to the user, but I definitely find the wack / feelings / no signs that are handed out from some users who lack knowledge / maturity a little annoying. I don't think I know more than the next man about hip hop, we all share because we all have something to learn, but if a poster who calls my post wack when I'm discussing hip hop maturely is slightly pathetic and has caught feelings, IMO. As any knowledgeable and mature head would respect my opinion, as I would theirs. This was apparent recently when people preferred to discuss sexuality over lyricism. I'm aware hip hop is sometimes like a popularity or real-life show, but come on… we all know that we should be here for the music/ concepts / lyricism / achievements of the arts etc.

The reaction system would be GOAT if you could have the ability as a mod / admin to find a poster worthy of having the ability to act on the reaction system (instead of everyone having the ability, as they do now).

It should be a reward, not a given. ​

It would also separate the knowledgeable from the weak minded / inexperienced / trolls etc. who think they're on an even keel for having a ridiculous opinion about hip hop (e.g. local rapper better than a legend or new school rapper better than anyone since the 80s (or more likely, would murder any rapper from the 80s etc.). I get that these aren't as common as we make out, but they're definitely around.

It would also grant respect (if we had a more complex algorithm) for those who we as a board deem worthy; other posters would benefit when dropping gems as they would be rewarded and it wouldn't be abused. Moreover it would help to the popularity of the mods, as we mostly discuss topics in the right way and would reward those who give us a knowledgeable discussion. Maybe just me… but I think this would work :unno:

To break down this further ( @Toddo ), what I'm trying to say is that it would work out something like:

Percentage = (GOAT / Co-Sign / Ether) Vs (Wack / Feelings / No-Sign)

Years = (Greater than 2 years) Vs (Less than 2 years)

Name next to User = Percentage > 70% && Years > 2 years = a 1 or a 2.

Else = a 3, 4 or a 5.

this is an outstanding idea/concept ... hmmm haveing only mods and posters who have gained respect being able to use the reaction system ... this makes a whole lot of sense

so basically everyone could see each others reactions but only certain people could actually give them

or maybe certain reactions could be available to every poster such as flags and lol's

Okay so we can only do points right now. Reaction abuse is an issue we want to alleviate, but points are still a good system and they include reactions and other stuff like length of time on the forum. We can maybe increase the points for the anniversary badges so that long-time members get more points for those.
