U need deals even if u create ur own label. The label is supposed to have artists in it, not him being on his own label. Think u heard it wrong.

Easier said than done tho. Game isnt a fresh product to the audience so hes gonna struggle with being mainstream hot & do numbers.

Just like with a label, radio etc. they need to be convinced that ure gonna make a profit of their investment. If u not on a label u working with a extremely small budget since it comes out of your own pocket compared to label budgets & marketing. The way internet been taking over the past years im sure its even harder.
