And Robb's case is easy to determine in hindsight. Walder inbred with his daughters and family members were known for being ugly, missing teeth, etc. Roose got a fat bitch to marry and Robb believed himself to be King - not even any King a king who never lost a battle. He wasn't going out like that. He only needed Walder to hold a position against the Lannisters so he could cut off their forces and hopefully reach King's Landing before Ned was killed. He had no need for him until his forces started to grow restless and he beheaded the Karstark patriarch. A lot of niggas would have undermined Walder Frey too besides Robb was under guest right, think of how treasonous it is to be a Kingslayer he wouldn't have never done it if Tywin didn't promise him impunity.

As treacherous as Walder was he wasn't someone who could be trusted which is what his mother said and why the Tully family never respected him. But Robb tried to out manuevre a snake and paid the ultimate price.
